HI all 3T Watch fanatics

As i was browzing thru the Defaubre sub forum and drooling on their upcoming GMT, I decided to check their site and fell in love with two of their watches.

One is their Marine Timer... it is a true beauty... Anyone has it and can provide shots, I am looking for wrist shots more specifically... any feedback on the watch would also be appreciated... its size, comfort, reliability, movement.

Thank you very much.

Brice

Thank you!!
I was checking out Gnomonwatches when I I preordered my Dievas and was looking for the Steinhart Nav B gold LE and saw that Steinhart had what seems to be exactly the same Marine Timer watch down
to the hands, dial color and all at 40-50$ more...
Any difference at all with the Défaubré model above??
Thanks BH

Hey Brice....

...as you have already noted the striking similarity between Steinhart and Debaufre, the Marine Timer from these two will be identical except for the differences in Steinhart or Debaufre marking on the watch case, crown, dial, and strap.

Steinhart and Debaufre are the same company, and my understanding is that the "Debaufre" name and marketing is targeted solely at the USA market (veterans...please correct me if this is wrong).

So if you like a particular model, you can cross-shop the two to see what will give you the best price.

Hello, this is Alldaron (president of Debaufre). I'll chime in on the question about the companies being the same. They are in fact not the same entity.

My father (Jon D.) and I started this company about 5 years ago in the U.S. under the name of Steinhart. We picked this name because the guy we were employing as our designer at the time was named Steinhart. We built up a reputation for service and quality products.

Two years into it, we were threatened with a lawsuit from Steinhausen to change our name. We decided not to be in court for the next few years, so after long research we found the historic name of Debaufre. Once the change went into effect, our designer decided he didn't want to work for a company not bearing his name and abruptly abandoned us, went back to Germany, took our designs with him and started his own little company. He is not associated with us.

With my father recently retiring and the addition of Brandon (new CEO) and a few other key individuals, some fundamental changes are in progress for Debaufre. To clarify, we are still a U.S. based company, we still maintain the strictest attention to customer service and exceptional manufacturing and we are building to be a global brand.

What's changing is the underlying definition of our stylistic branding, slowly transitioning from traditional homage pieces to custom designed pieces. Naturally in any evolution there's going to be some misses among the hits and not every design is going to resonate with everyone, but this is to be expected. Our vision for the future of Debaufre is as a unique brand, but the road to that goal traverses peaks and valleys. We regularly conduct design surveys and gather advice from watch aficionados to guide our creative compass.

Our recent release of the Triton 2000 meter diver, the Aero Gent officer's timepiece and the Nav-B Gmt are a first step towards that goal. Each watch resonates with a different expectation of function and style, granted perhaps not the duplicate homage pieces you are used to, but viewed under unbiased light and given a fair chance, these watches are great in their own right. Remember that many of our designs are a direct result of the input from fellow members on the watch forums.

I hope this clarifies the confusion surrounding Debaufre and the German off-shoot company. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks for the clarification on the Debaufre' and Steinhart blurry divisions. It is now very clear to me. Thanks too for the heads-up on Debaufre's future directions. I wish you the best.

More than a year ago I dealt directly with your dad when I got a 44 and a 48 Nav-B. They are still very accurate and still impress me with their quality.

All the bestcool10.gif

Alldaron, that is very honest post and sheds a lot of light on a situation that a lot of people find confusing.  I have been a fan of the company for a while now and the Orange Triton was the first watch that I just had to have.  Good luck with the future direction of the company :)

My pleasure, I'm glad to help clear up the confusion. If there are any additional questions please let me know, I'll answer the post as soon as I can.

I noticed someone asking about the Marine Timer, we have one left and as soon as it's gone, it will be retired from our active collection. Just a heads up, if someone wants it, I'll pull it from our online store to reserve it for the 3T members.

Have a great evening.

~ Alldaron

An Update by Alldaron:

This is Alldaron, founder and former owner of Debaufre. As many of you know, my father (Jon D.) and I started and built Steinhart Watches from the ground up, with Gunter as our designer. We were then forced to change the name due to a lawsuit by Steinhausen - the company selling in Delta Skymall magazine, and we turned Steinhart over to Gunter with an agreed collaboration that together we cover the US and European markets.

We picked the name Debaufre for historic reasons. We proceeded to build up Debaufre as a classic company with affordable prices and incredible service. We stopped selling the Nav-B watches because at the end of 2008 we got sued by Richemont, the parent company of IWC. The lawsuit was settled out of court in July 2009.

My father completely retired from Debaufre in December of 2009. With high hopes I signed on a new business partner as the CEO - Brandon Marion. Unfortunately by February, Brandon and I were at an impasse with unresolvable differing opinions about how Debaufre should be run and the direction in which we should take the company. Due to this, I resigned my duties and responsibilities as president by mid February. After weeks of negotiations, we agreed on a settlement and I turned over my ownership shares of the company. I wish them all the best with their future business endeavors. I alternately wear the Aero Gent and the Triton 2000, they are amazing watches. I believe everyone should own one. :-)

What has become of Alldaron? I have launched a new watch company focusing on private label Swiss production; and have formed partnerships with various renowned pilots and international racing drivers.

I wanted to personally extend my appreciation to those in the forums who supported my father and I in our creation of Debaufre. It was a pleasure getting to know many of you personally and I hope that in the future we can collaborate on another project.

Best wishes,
Alldaron
