the black DLC version definitely has my vote.....I would have preferred the dial w/o the orange ring, and instead all markers in orange, cleaner display on the dial would have been nice....

that said....I think the orange ring will grow on me and I will be saving for this one...I have been contemplating the 500m triton....but with this one out...it is going to be my 2010 dive watch purchase.

edit; forgot to mention....the lume....what I do like about the orange ring is the contrast lume against the hour markers....thats a nice touch IMHO

Trent, SBD, Sang, Focal, Dan, Hammer, Crue, Joe...thanks for the honest assessment...that's what makes the world of WIS a great place!!!

Trent - I really want to add this one and provide you with the obligatory watch porn right now...but you know the struggle...the disease...too many great watches...what to bring in to the fold first?...ah...the struggle...this one will arrive sometime in 2010...

SBD...sang...Hammer...agree with your guys comments...however, the Blasted/DLC and ALL DLC options are both singing to me...sweet!!!hand6.gif

Joe - agree, the dial design with the "orange lume circle" that you look at in the daytime and say...hmm...ok..........at night, the contrasting lume between the orange circle and contrasting lume hour markers has one saying...ah...I get it!!!yourock.gif

Thanks for the replies all....

The watch is 15.8 mm thick. The 14 mm on their website is a misprint.

How do I know? Because I am wearing it right now...

I like it for being so different from teh majority of the other divers that I own. I agree that the dial may be a little busy, but it is in keeping with the overall design.

So far I really like it.  I took some quick and dirty pictures to realize that I left my card reader at the office.  Hopefully I will get a chance to post them tomorrow.  I only have about five of them, so you would think I would have one with me...

I like the dial, not too busy for my tastes.  Legibility is great for telling time.  I still am not sure as to the date window.  It appears that the numberal on the two digit dates gets cut off by the window a little bit.

The bead blasted case is top notch.  The rubber strap is probably the best surprise to the package.  It is thick at the lugs probably about 6-7 mm, and it has a nice groove down the middle of it to the buckle.  The only downside is that there is not a dive suit extension.  It would have been nice to see one similar to Sinn's large buckle.  The inside of the strap also is textured vs flat so it sits nice on the wrist.  The hex lugs are pretty cool too, I like those so much better than screwed lugs, which I prefer over springbars.  The case also has notches on the sides to accommodate the extra thick strap.  That was good thinking in advance on Steinhart's part.

I think that Steinhart is going to produce a metal bracelet for it as well.  I have found that for me larger watches wear better on rubber.  Usually I swap the band on a watch as soon as I get it since most aftermarket bands are better than the o.e.m. bands.  Not in this case, this one is staying on.  Plus it has four sizing holes on each side so it is very easy to get a perfect fit.

The crown at 4 is a great size.  I have a Triton from two years ago and the crown is too small.  This is a much better size and works flawlessly.

The watch has gained on an average of 3 1/2 seconds per day for the past few days.  So that is pretty good.

The only thing that I can think of that would make this package better would be to have the metal bracelet ready.  Other than that, it has all of the ingredients of a great dive watch.

I really think the overall quality and execution is great.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for the detailed comments kdsarch...yes, very helpful!!yourock.gif

Sounds like you are very happy with this one so far.  You touched on all the details regarding the design and finish of this new Triton that pop to mind when looking at the pics posted from Steinhart.  The only surprise to me is the comment regarding the date window which may clip double digit dates.

It certainly sounds like this one lives up to that typical "great build quality" that those that have experienced Steinhart (and Debaufre) timepieces know very well....appears it also came very well regulated from Steinhart if your are running consistently 3-4 seconds fast per day out of the gate.cool10.gif

Can't wait to see your pics!!!

I thought Steinhart had to change their name to Debrafre Educate me, is it Debraufre in the US and Steinhart outside the US?

Well...ncvol17...I'm sure that there are some great WIS's here at 3T that know what is really going on between Steinhart and Debaufre.

...here is what I have heard (but I have no basis as to what is truth and current now that we are in 2010).

Debaufre was originally set up to be Steinhart's USA distributor, and you will notice that the product lines looked identical except for very minor dial badging and maybe a few color option differences.  I have recently read (but have no knowledge that this is fact) that the Steinhart / Debaufre partnership is over.

Like I said, I have no idea if this is really the case...the one thing that I have noticed is that the new designs from these two companies seem to be diverging quite a bit.  In particular, the new pilots from these companies and the NEW Triton from both really have taken different design paths.

One thing I do know, they both produce great quality timepieces at very, very reasonable prices.

Chris, thanks for your inputs. I'm learning from you. While I've read that Steinhart owns Debaufre', I was always under the impression that the name differences were just for product positioning and branding objectives.  Their alleged "split" is new to me but thanks for this info, amigo ;).

I just hope their sweet price points for great quality is sustained.hand6.gif

No problem Jeff...I'm hoping that someone that REALLY knows what's up might either confirm or deny the partnership between these two ending.

I agree with you though...hoping their great quality products and sweet price points continue...

Woo...hoo!!!...KD...that is what I'm talkin' about.woohoo.gif

Looks sweet!!Thumbsup3.gif

A great looking piece and I'm liking the unique dial (even though it's busier than what I typically go for).

Case detail/quality and lume looks spectacular as well!!!

...this one deserved a separate post over in the New Arrivals section here at 3T.

Big congrats on your new arrival!!!party.gif
