Well...we are well into BASELWORLD 2013 which will finish up on May 2nd (just a couple days away). I have certainly not seen everything yet, but have been completely wow'ed by the offerings from a number of makers (I'll admit to totally drooling over at least a few Tourbillon models shown!...gorgeous, incredibly executed for sure but I don't see myself laying down that kind of coin this year... ). Two real standouts for me (which just happen to have a blue theme going) have been the Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue (for a sporty category watch that I would get a ton of wear out of), and on the more dressy side of things the Glashutte Original Sixties Panorama Date (I don't typically go for the dressier models, but there are times when they fit the bill and this one really speaks to me). So all you WIS out there...what has you swinging from the rafters (or on the other side of things...any complete disappointments), from BaselWorld 2013? First, the Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue. I've been a fan of the first Tudor Heritage Chrono (especially the grey dial model) since it was introduced in 2010. This Chrono Blue makes tweaks to the hands, indices, minute track, and applied markers which (IMO) give it a better vintage nod, especially since the overall design of this one pays respect to the original 1973 Tudor Monte Carlo Chrono. So well done IMO!!! The Glashutte Original is available in a regular Sixties model(which is 39mm in diameter) and the Sixties Panorama Date (which is 42mm in diameter). The 42mm case size is just perfect IMO and I absolutely love the well executed panorama date and simple retro dial font along with the white gold and nicely done blue burst dial. I'll admit this one is way pricey, but a sweet classic looker.

Had no special favorites to say it frankly... Many companies played the safe card with the reborn of vintage models who had already them success from the past... Some others who took the dive for new designs, really been going deep in the lost abysses. So it's a "déjà vu" or a "WTF" experience all in all. I don't know if you guys saw the new Airman from Glycine: 1953 and base 22. I just regret the cyclop on the 53. The base 22 is a "back-ops" version. Glycine played like many, a safe card. http://azfinetime.wordpress.com/2012/10/16/glycine-airman-1953-vintage-glycine-airman-base-22-mystery-coming-soon/ Doxa came out of the closet with it's chinese models...Brrrr...Chilling. http://blog.breitlingsource.com/2013/04/23/doxa-basel-2013-pieces/ Of course there's been some new stuffs but they are far from our wallets so I'll pass. For the BlancPain: Nice but not Whaooo. This revisited Bathyscaphe version with the "liquid metal" bezel, silicon balance spring(Sure, they can do it like Omega since they are both owned by Swatch-Group) is looking good and sporty but this whole design is giving nothing specially new in my eyes. Like Glycine: Dating also from 1953. Isn't that funny? A move who will cost you 10,000$ for the first model. http://www.ablogtowatch.com/baselworld-2013-the-blancpain-fifty-fathoms-bathyscaphe-watch/ Rolex&Tudor, Omega... All played safe cards. Let's not speak about the new Anonimo... Who knows if they will ever come to reality since they only proposed computer images and demonstration models without movements at Basel. Resumed by: They only proposed new dials in the flesh. I bet they have cold feet right now. Hamilton proposed something new: The Face2Face who gets a bit too pricey for my taste... http://www.timetechtalk.com/forum1/26171.html Oris came out with a depth gauge who's still in them classical diver look but at list you can enjoy a such watch from only 2600€. http://www.monochrome.nl/oris-unveils-the-aquis-depth-gauge/ This will be something that divers will enjoy. Final verdict? Basel would have been much more funny if I was a billionaire.

Those are great ones too with the Tudor Black Shield Tony (I think that one is available in a vintage looking lume themed version as well as that sporty red/black version that you showed...adventurous looking piece for sure with the cousin of Rolex continuing to step outside the box a little more...I like that. And that Blancpain Oscar...just plain gorgeous but too many $$'s for my blood... I agree Will...many of the pieces that blow the mind would require a dip into billionaire funds. I also agree that many brands made some safe plays (more evolution than revolution), but I don't necessarily think that is a bad strategy. I know we have some serious fans of the Omega Speedmaster 'Moonwatch' here at 3T. I thought the Omega Speedmaster 'Dark Side of the Moon' was a pretty cool piece from BaselWorld! The Omega features a matte black ceramic case (so we know it's not going to be exactly cheap), and a black zirconium oxide ceramic dial, as well as, an in-house Co-Axial Caliber 9300 chrono movement. An then, of course, if you feel the need to dip into those billionaire funds...the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari (a mere $300,000) with open dial and sapphire crystal that offers a tasty view of the Hublot-made caliber HUB9005.H1.6 manually wound movement, which Hublot claims contains more parts (637) than any other movement that they have previously produced...and 50 days of power reserve complete with the addition of a small electronic screwdriver to wind and set the watch will make every billionaire happy! I've got to admit...that complication is something to look at....amazing!!!!

This Hublot isn't much what I'd dream of Chris...Looks like a Ferrari engine... And this little power tool wouldn't feels great in my rear pocket. The black Speedy... Well, I'm not so into PVD,ceramic and all the black stuff. I like better the steel model. If we should speak high $ and innovation: Here's what I liked. The Constant Escapement from Girard-Perregaux. Technically speaking, it's a major achievement in watchmaking: The idea is simple but concretizing it is another thing as usual. It's nice that G.P went all in to make this milestone a reality, showing one more time that they are among the greatest ever. It's all explained in the link under. Beware! Hypnotizing videos inside: If you have 100K$ to use on a watch, they will burn instantly your pockets. http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/in-depth-the-girard-perregaux-constant-force-escapement-explained

Yes Will, I think that's the point of this one......this one was developed in collaboration with Ferrari. I've been into cars even longer than watches, and have loved every Ferrari I've gotten the opportunity to drive, so this one hits me with a 1-2 punch. With 50 days of power reserve, I don't think you will need to carry the winding/setting tool in your back pocket my friend! Love the GP and the innovative constant force escapement that they've developed in this calibre!!! Like you, I have a lot of love for the GP brand and heritage. Great video link! I will definitely have to add something from the GP brand some day (likely NOT this one that you posted...as I expect it will be the Seahawk II as that continues to be my favorite from the brand). Keep 'um coming guys...any other thoughts (good or bad) on the BaselWorld 2013 reveal?

Your post is the first I've seen or heard of it (I guess I've been in a cave lately and missed it completely!). Looks like it's available in 3 dial colors...black, white, and silver...I like the black dial that you posted (and the white dial is not bad at all). I wish the price of entry wasn't so high on these though.

The Omega Bullhead is awesome imho...that white one is sweet Chris....3 color dials are usually rare!...I had been looking for a vintage model, but they are scarce and expensive...the new one is pretty appealing at $8000. in comparison.
