EXTRA! EXTRA! JUST IN.... The movie turns into reality! Choose any watch you like but remember. The zombie apocalypse stretches from 10-25 years. Which watch would you want to be wearing during this period? Attachment: 476482711_zombie_apocalypse_xlarge.jpeg (Downloaded 36 times)

This should be a fun topic Patrik. When I get a minute, I will have to think about a specific watch model a little more, but I might be tempted to go with a kinetic quartz or solar quartz powered model over a 100% mechanical model that I would go with during normal times (mostly due to the other digital instruments/toys you might have as features with such a watch). Not sure I'd want to be fully reliant on battery powered quartz watches (ie. watches without a kinetic or solar charging feature).

stew77 wrote: This should be a fun topic Patrik. Oh yes, the topic raises an interesting question. One can actually remove the word "zombie" and replace it with "any survival situation that will be prolonged". I used the word "zombie" just to make it a bit more fun since its such a popular myth in today's society. I could not answer the question myself in the first post. I need to think about is also. Sure, one might be able to find "new" watches later as one searches the remains of civilization, and batteries for quartz movement. Seiko watches with Spring Drive is another alternative, but not easy to get your hands on. One have to remember that survival is the first priority, so looting the local AD´s might not be the first thing one wants to do, even if would be a WIS´s wet dream. Material is another component that might play a part. Metal, plastic or ceramic? A big heavy watch or keep it lightweight? What complications would be of good use on a watch during this time period? Will it function properly in cold or hot weather? One never knows were one might end up. Would you take your chances with a well known so called "bulletproof" mechanical movement? Share your decision and your thoughts about why you choose "the" watch. But i want to emphasize that this is all a made up scenario. So take it as it is, a fun brainteaser. I managed to narrow it down to 3 watches on my list. This watch won me over because of it´s functions (and the fact that im a bit of a fan of the model). It´s reliable and has proven itself on many occasions to be a tough watch that can take abuse. My decision...Im going with the Casio ProTrek PRG-240-1ER or 240-1BER. Its not too expensive and easy to find. A robust watch with lots of complications one might be needing. There are a few that one probably wont ever use in this scenario, the altimeter for ex. What i like is, that it has a compass, barometer and a perpetual calender all the way to the year 2100. Its solar powered, so it should function for at least 10-15 years properly. Oh yes, it has a thermometer also. It can cope with a temperature of -10 degrees Celsius. This means that i can wear the watch on the outside of the jacket, and the buttons are big enough to be worked with gloves on. The display is big, so a quick glance might be enough when you need to keep your head on a swivel. The watch weighs only 65gr, so it wont weigh my (tiny) arm down in a battle where i´ll be swinging a sharp object against zombie heads. Water proof to 100m or 10bar/atm, enough for me. Im not planning to go diving into zombie-infested waters anyway. Attachment: Casio_PROTREK_PRG-240-1ER (2).jpg (Downloaded 28 times)
