And, I'm going to join Nate in guessing "Old Yellowstain" in the Caine Mutiny

Caine Mutiny is the correct answer overall. But can anyone pick out the four clues?

1. the cut tow line

2. the yellow die marker

3. the missing strawberries

4. the stress balls Captain Queeg always carried

Correct. Or for #2, the nickname given to the captain, Old Yellow Stain, because of his alleged cowardice in dropping the yellow die marker too far from shore and then hightailing it out of there.
