Hello to all:

Before anyone screams "Oh My God, he owns a Seiko!"

I for one is not one of those biased watch nerds where everything has to be an Omega, Rolex, Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe or Jaeger-LeCoultre. Owning vintage watches from these brands are a challenge and difficult to obtain.

However, by the end of the day; I ask myself am I any better off? the exorborant amount of money just to buy one was it worth all that trouble of traveling  2 hours by ferry to and from the seller?

Owning vintage watches are fun and posses a challenge but sometimes there are situations where the weather plays a part or that I don't have the means to maintain these fine timepieces.

With the Seiko is a fun watch...it's inexpensive, if it gets damaged or dropped I know I won't be crying over it.  Dropping a Rolex, however that's like having a car accident in a Ferrari, you just don't do it.

That's just my two cents worth of my personal experience of watch collecting.

With the 2nd Generation Seiko SRP483K1 Orange Baby Monster here is what you get:

Case: 43mm
Height: 13mm
Weight: 160 grams
Crystal: Hardlex
See Through Back: Yes also made from Hardlex

New for this year Seiko Caliber 4R36 replaces the venerable 7s36B that was used in the previous watch.  For the first time, Seiko has incorporated full-hacking and hand winding capabilities not found in this price range or any other base model Seiko 5, for that matter.

The watch retails for $179 U.S. and for those of us living up north of the border in a far off country called Canada...I'm sorry to say you'll be shelling out $350.

This watch being a Seiko 5 means that I only get 100m of Water Resistance which is better than having zero from my 1955 Jaeger-LeCoultre, that I once owned.

Yes, I know Seikos are cheap and no one gives a damn about them...however, what other brands out there gives you so much for so little?

The Cons:

In Canada all current Seiko 5 Automatic watches do not say Made In Japan...like their U.S. counterparts that do. That is because most are made in Singapore and Malaysia.
However, the SRP483K1 is the first Seiko to be made in Korea.

In short:

This doesn't bother me because I didn't pay Omega money for it and is not expected to be in the same league as a Rolex or an IWC.
