I have caried a Zippo lighter with me for years now.  My current one I purchased back in 1998 and have managed not to loose all of them.

I was in the market to replace it with a new and stronger model.  There were 2 contenders the Zippo brass Armor Cased lighter and the Stainless steal peanut lighter.

These lighters are good to carry in a pack as a back up lighter, because they will burn on almost any fuel that can be found at all corners of the globe.

The Peanut lighter can be carried with fluid due to the fact that it has an O-ring seal.  The fluid has less chance to evaporate like it does out of a Zippo.

We will test the peanut lighter and get back.

When I say I purchased a new lighter, like with almost every thing I purchase, what I am saying is I purchased a set of lighters.  Some things that I keep in mind are "2 is one and 1 is none" and "keep it simple".

Let us know how the peanut lighter works out. I may have to get one to throw in my stove kit I carry to the field.

I will to tell you the truth I will fill it and weight it and check the weight over time.

First impressions I would upgrade the O-ring to a larger gauge maybe.  I will have to see if the design would suffer a failure, if in a stressed state, you over torqued it and diced the ring.  I may be seeing a potential problem where there is not one.

I will keep you up dated on the progress.

For this project I will report exact figures, please no one ever ask me to report exact watch descriptions or details.

I filled the lighter and measured the weight on a small desk top load cell.

Avg. Weight day one 28.85g

The Peanut Lighter is holding fluid well.  There is no change in weight at all.

Going to break one down in the next few weeks and see if the wicks are compatible with Zippo's.

Here are a few more vid's from County Comm

The peanut lighter is a great buy, I filled mine months ago and it still is working.  As much as I love my Zippos (all 500 of them :D), the fluid lasts approximately 10 days before a refill, whether you use it or not.

A Zippo wick will work fine and actually last longer because of the copper wire used to wrap it tightly.  Also, I have carried a Zippo key chain fuel container with my gear for years:

It's about 8-10 bucks, carries enough fuel to fill a Zippo at least once (plus spare flints), and a peanut lighter a few times.  Mine has never leaked hand6.gifhand6.gif

Cheers,
Griff

The peanut lighter sounds like quite the handy tool to have. I think I'm going to get me a few. :) ;)
