Yay!! I am free from my extra commitments in the form of coaching my kids sports. I have to say it was fun, rewarding, maddening and tiring but well worth the running here and there. 2009 D.A.D.S. TB Rays. James is directly in front of me in the picture. This was a varied bunch of kids in 1st and 2nd grade playing with a 38mph pitching machine. I'm glad to say everyone hit through out the season though it was tough initially. It was very rewarding to see the players improve so quickly and my Dad pride kicks in when I recall our final game of the season in which James went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIS. Yeah, he's a lefty and if I can make a pitcher out of him he'll be my retirement. 2009 De Pere Rapides Women of the Moose U-6 Soccer Team. Kira is directly in front of me in the picture. These are little kids who are just learning organized sports. They were an amazing bunch of kids who got tough quick since they had me bellowing at them. Tough for them to maintain focus for an entire 8 minute period and physically demanding for them to run the field in the heat, but I am glad to say no serious injuries. Kira's first foray into sports and she turned out to be more aggressive than I thought she would be. She really shined on defense where she made a number of key stops and tackles (legally) though she has yet to develop a nose for scoring. I had a great time with these kids but I am now happy to not be quite as tied up during the week. I may pass on the baseball coaching next year but Kira has already asked me to coach her soccer team next year.:D

Kudos to you Pax for your volunteer work with kids. I know the work and dedication involved when it comes to volunteer work. We need more people like you and your kids are lucky to have a dad as involved as you. happy1.gif

You're an outstanding role model for your kids and the other parents Pax. hand6.gifhand6.gif It is a very time consuming but rewarding experience to coach and even more so when your child is on the team. I coached my daughters T-Ball team and had a blast helping the kids understand team work and showing them the basics of baseball. Unfortunately with my disabilities it is impossible for me to coach now but I still attend almost all of her soccer games and Karate matches. Enjoy the time off with your kids and start planning for next years teams, great job Pax! Oh yea, good luck with turning James into a starting left handed pitcher. If he is even half way decent he'll make it to the "bigs" which would be a blast for a parent (IMHO)! woohoo.gif

Thanks guys. And volunteer?? You must be nuts. they pay me!! I got a hat for baseball and a t-shirt for soccer;). As you know it is worth every minute spent especially when you see a child brimming with pride after success. Again, thanks for the kind words!

My boys just got into Little League this past spring. They played AA with the kids pitching. For never having played baseball before, they did very well. Lee is an oustanding athlete, left handed and can switch hit (plays golf right handed). KJ, 5' tall at 9-years old, is a little gangly but still a good athlete...and he'll grow into it! Dad did the asst. coach deal and we have signed up for "Fall Ball" which is more of a 3 month baseball camp where the kids really learn the game! I'm looking forward to it!

I'm sure you did it for the free ball cap, huh?;) I gave James off for Fall Ball since we have had him taking classes at school and tennis lessons in addition to the organized sports. I guess a seven year old should have a little free time to get into trouble during our too brief Summer!woohoo.gif

Kudos to both of you, Mark and Ken. No better purpose in life than to help our kids become responsible adults eventually.
