Today I participated in the 31st Annual Tulsa Run. It was the first time I had ever run a 15K(9.3 miles) and it was also the first time I had ever run that length of distance(Previous max distance was 7 miles).  I'm proud to say that my computer chip recorded run time was 1hr 34min 28sec. That gave me a 10min 11sec mile pace and I couldn't be more pleased with my performance. I'm looking forward to running it again next year as a fun time was had by all.

Thanks Oscar. I'm feeling pretty proud of myself at the moment, especially since running has always been a difficult task for me. I'm so pumped that I'm giving serious consideration to doing the Route 66 Half-Marathon in November.

Big Congrats! I've never liked running but I'm built for distance for sure, not speed. Thinking about doing something like that distance too. Your success with it makes it sound 'possible' for me...Awesome job!!

Murph, I used to run 10k 3 to 4 times a week about 20 years ago. I did it for about 3 years and my pace was 6 minutes per kilometer. Whenever I ran, I would wear my Timex with a beeper.

I'd tear through Sauconys, Brooks, Nikes and Reeboks like about a pair a quarter and threw each one away when it started to pronate.

Well, all that running boomeranged on me and now my knees keep bugging me. Don't get carried away. Do it in moderation. If you don't, you'll end up paying for it somedaytoon1.gif

Thanks everybody. I didn't decide to do this race until about two weeks before it, when a good friend of mine asked me to so that he'd have somebody to run with. He'd done this race a couple of times before, but had always been trying to go fast and get in somewhere around the hour mark or better and just never enjoyed the run. He said that he just wanted to go out and enjoy himself this time at an easy comfortable pace. Since I'd done a couple of longer than usual runs recently I felt confident that I could do this. It was a great time and fun for all. There were several local bands along the route and people were out spectating and cheering you on. At the finish line there was plenty of water, free snacks of all varietys, a band up on stage performing and free beer from a local micro-brewery. I really enjoyed myself and the atmosphere was wonderful. I'm seriously looking forward to doing this again next yearThumbsUp02.gif.

How fast without back pack and combat boots? subtlelaugh.gif  Damn I used to hate that, but I used to take my CAV Troop (C/2/9 CAV) on a 5 mile run 3 X a week!
