For those of you that have not seen this on the news there was a huge rock slide on I-40 in NC just over the TN border a few weeks ago....from what I have been told both directions of 40 (a major east/west highway) will be closed until probably March mistake.gif

Anyway, I'm planning on going down to my house in Western NC for about 10 days leaving this weekend...if there is anyone in eastern TN or Western NC that can help me out on how the traffic has been going around the rock slide would appreciate it....

Here is what I see my options are....

Jump off 40, go through Gatlinburg and Cherokee hitting 40 again at exit 20

Head the other direction off 40 through Hot Springs and hitting 40 in the same place.

My concern on both these routes is two lane mountain roads...i can see traffic being bumper to bumper.

The last option is instead of coming out of Ohio on 71 to 75 to Knoxville, going the other direction towards Charleston, catch 77, to 81 to 26 to Asheville avoiding the rock slide completely.

Any suggestions or thought would be appreciated
