For those not familiar with the MGA, production
began in 1955 thru 1962, when it was replaced by the
MGB. The earlier MGA had a 1500 cc engine that
had 68 hp,the later models had the upgraded 72 hp.

The twin-cam version was launched in 1958 that had
DOHC aluminum cylinder version of the B-Series engine.
With a high compression ratio of 9.9:1 later it was replaced by a compression ratio of 8.8:1,with 108 hp.

These twin-cam cars were fitted with four Dunlop disc brakes. The top speed was 113 mp/h.

There is a sense of style when driving a
MGA over a MGB. Partly due to the Jaguar-like curves,
when the car was viewed from the side.

Cheers,
Simon

It was the best handling car I ever drove.  It had a funny little 30 second timer switch on the left side of the dash that would activate your turn signal for 30 seconds.  I did not have the beefed up engine but cruising speeds of 75mph was easy to hold.  Problems I encountered were electronic fuel pumps that went every 12k (Lucas electric - so guess why), when the car got older, they spokes in the wire wheels loosened so they had to be rebuilt in order to balance them, the top was a bitch both up & down and it tended to leak a little at speed in the rain...but, I did love that car...not the fastest of the line (when everyone else was into muscle cars) but it could take street corners at 50mph!  Springtime, summer and fall in Chicago were a joy in that car!  Kept it until I had kids!

Thanks for the link Ken.

I've must have spent over an hour yesterday,
going through the cars from the website.

However, the XK140 did caught my eye.

Nah, I'll stick with my watch collecting.

Cheers,
Simon

Nice car ThumbsUp02.gif. One of the things I miss about Europe, is all the great automobiles that we'll never see here.
