Now that I have a few watches in my collection, including two automatics, I'd like to get a box for them along with keeping auto's running. I've seen quite a few on eBay, but I don't know what to look for. I'd like to be able to hold somewhere around 6 watches of which 2-4 would wind the automatics. (sorry if I'm not using the correct "terminology") Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for or where a good place to get one would be?

Josh... check the bay, search on "watch winders". There are quite a few there at a reasonable price. I got my last one from there - 4 winders + 6 extra spaces - for less than $50... Steve

So I don't need to worry about a certain quality between different boxes? I won't have to worry about the box catching fire while I'm at work and burning up my watches or anything, right? smile8.gif

Josh we have a Steinhausen 8 watch winder. We have had it now for just over a year and I have had to do only one small fix to it. Nothing major. We got it off of the bay for $200 +shipping. We also have single wolf winders. Just one runs us just about the same as the Steinhausen. But Sandra's watches will not fit on the pillows of the Steinhausen so we have a few of the wolfs.....in fact we just orders 9 and wolf is giving us the tower for free. So that will give us two wolf towers. We have had problems with two of the wolf winders. They stopped working on the option "C". Wolf replaced them pronto no questions asked. hand6.gif Stephen and Sandra The Bathys Hawaii King and Queen

Josh..I have tried many winders and this subject has been discussed for may years...a poc winder can cause problems to a automatic watch....coyote2.gif I don't believe cost has anything to do with it as there are many good winders at lower prices out there...but if you don't want any problems down the road buy a good Orbita winder which are programmable to the watches you own and have a program guide for every watch imaginable...they go on sale periodically and can be had for a great price if you can wait....jmhohand6.gif

My opinion (such as it is), just get yourself a nice watch box. Put your watches in it and look around for a winder if you feel you really, really need one for two or three auto watches. If they are autos you can hand wind, just set the time, etc. and wind it up when you want to wear it. If you are concerned about keeping the movement in good shape, then wind the autos that sit once a week or so. I have a winder and the ONLY watch I use it for is my Seiko Monster which can't hand wind. When you get as many autos as some of the guys on shown here, then by all means invest in some winders. :)

Here is an interesting topic for discussion: David at d.freemont, Inc. specifies in his manuals not to use a winder to wind your automatics. Very peculiar. Why is that?

Yea just shop around online. Some places will have real good deals and no shipping cost. But your favorite search engine and "watch winder deals" should give you many results to glean through. Good luck. ;)

Can you do any damage to a watch with them starting and stopping all the time. Now that I spent good coin on my last watch I dont want to do any damage to it by not putting it on a winder.

With the Rolex if you want to put it on a winder get something good. Like a Orbita winder or at least a winder made by Orbita. Check out the Watch Prince and JTV Watches some fair prices. ;)

Get yourself something nice that is programmable to the number of revolutions you want to give the watch within 24 hours. The danger is overwinding the watch imho. How many revolutions per day? See this helpful link: http://www.orbita.net/pages/17100.htm You just spent serious coin on an heirloom watch. You deserve a nice winder!:D
