Just picked up a beige dial Vietnam era Orsa military style watch.  I really like this one, but I am wondering about the lume on the hands and face.  The lume seems to dim greatly after just a short amount of time.  I only have one other watch with lume and it is a Traser with tritium so I know my point of view is a little skewed, but I was wondering what is considered normal on this watch in terms of lume brightness and duration.

Really bright at first.  In fact, bright than my Traser, but that does not last long.

Anyone with experience on this watch? What is normal?  Do I need a relume?  Where can I get a relume?

Thanks

I don't think you'll need a relume. That is the way these Orsa miltarys are... I have found my lume to be persistent over time though not dazzling...

Sounds normal to me.  Bright at first, hands brighter than pips, dulls rapidly but readable in dark situations for a long while.

Thanks for the replies.  Sounds like everything is normal.

Too bad it does not stay bright.  It is blazing when I first charge it under light.

Orsa military + tritium would be great.

Cool watch though!

Same experience as Paxman's.  Lume not overly bright throughout the night, but readable.

Watch the sales forums for pre-owned sales or check eBay. I believe most of them are already in someones collection.

And welcome to 3T. ;)

Just my opinion but I think there is nothing wrong with the low lume of the Orsa. The low lume is what I think Orsa envisioned it to be for this military model watch. Imagine the night time risk to a patrol or squad if their Orsa military watches had lumes that could light up a runway.face4.gif

When I was a teen, I had a Hammy that was Vietnam issue and its lume was nothing we'd be happy about today. Now in hindsight, I realize why Orsa's lume may have been purposely toned-down.
