Hi guys,
Posted a thread here on 3T earier, asking the help of fellow WIS, what to get. And the Dievas Vortex was one of the named candidates. Got several good pointers, and quite a few PM´s . (especially thanks to hammerfjor, watchdaddy1 and Lance for their insight) There could be no other, the vortex was a given. But not having found reviews prior to buying, and even all the advices, that completly satisfied my needs for reasurance, I thought I would share my experiences with the Vortex, for what it`s worth. And, this beeing my first ever review, feel free to make constructive critisisme.
First up, I need to say something about the packaging. It came in a white cardboard box, with a black dievas ribbon (really nice) and inside was an impressive leather box with the dievas logo. Inside was the watch itselfe on a waterproof black (optional brown) leather strap, signed warranty card in a leather holder and cleaning cloth. I also recived a complimentry dievas travel case from gnomonwatches, also great:0)

The vortex itself:
First impressions is that it looks bigger than its 44mm (imo). My wrist beeing almsot 8”, I had some worries that it would be to small for my taste (but William/hammerfjor got me straight, hehe) And he was spot on. Fits just perfect, and a very nice and right-size feel to it. Has som great wrist prescence I think. You need some hefty big wrists for this to look to small and flimsy!

It is really light! Weighing in at only 92 grams on the leather strap! Quite the difference from my ”behemoth” Benarus Megalodon (also a great watch btw) with a hefty 326 grams on the metal SS strap.
Case:
Gotta mention something else about the case on this one. KOBOLD had Fricker make them a case for their ”SMG-1” watch, out of aircraft grade titanium. But KOBOLD didn`t buy all of the cases, and DIEVAS got their hands on some of them. And the VORTEX came to life (at least that`s the way the story goes). So we are talking a pretty good titanium case here guys! DIEVAS also put in a HE valve (not that I´m gonna need that, but complements the design I think) It´s a 500m, but Dievas ”underscore” most of their cases (as many other brands), so guess it would acctually be more than 500m. The case is 44 mm 9 to 3, and 54 mm lug to lug. And 14 mm tall. The first series had a engraved screwed case back with a kinda vortex spiral thing. Mine does not. Just printing on the back, no engraved logo. Would have liked a logo-caseback, but no biggy.

Movement:
It has a ETA 2824-2 movement, that according to Dievas has been adjusted to the ”highest standards”. I have timed it to run 11 seconds fast every 24h, for a periode of 20 days. Not extremly great, but not awfull either.  But in my mind +11/24h isn`t really ”the highest standard” on a ETA 2824-2. Other than that, not that much more to say about the mvt, u guys know it allready.

Bezel:
Sits nice and snug, and it´s crisp and precise. Usally try tapping min finger against the bezel, when getting a new watch, and if it`s  a bit loose, u hear a little ”cluncking”, no clunck here:0)  First impressions was that it felt a bit ”cheap”, but think that has to do with it being made in titanium also(?), and being extreemly light, it feelt a bit less sturdy compared to more heavy SS bezels. But, it is by no means cheap. And really like it now. Just needed some getting used to.The bezel ring has a black painted insert with engraved (i think?) markings. And mine allready have some minor scratches in the black painted insert, so would have been better of with a engraved bezel insert I think, or even better with a solid engraved bezel.

On a james bond zulu.

Strap:
One can have either a black or a brown ”water proof” (no leather strap of course beeing completly water proof) leather strap with a signed pre-v´ish buckle. Think this is in titanium also, at least it matches the case perfectly colorwise. Quite thick and robust, and I like it a lot. The strap is soft, and very comfortable. It´s fixed to the case by a flat head screw bar. I would have prefered a hex bolt, so not so easily to slip and scratch the case, and would also have been nice if it came with a extra set of screws.

Crown:
Screw down of course, beeing a 500 m. A bit fiddely unscrewing, having quite big crown guards. But the operation is precise and to the point. Allthough a bit unfamiliar to do the winding the ”wrong way”, compared to most other watches I own, but again, no biggy.                                                                                               Wearing the watch on the wright wrist, I was a bit unsure about the protruding crown at 8 a´clock. But as william/watchdaddy1 reasured me, no real problem there. But you feel its there. And I have some minor red scratchings on the hand, but guess I´ll live, hehe. One needs to suffer for beauty:0)

Lume:
First, need to point out that I´m a BIG lume addict. I am one of those WIS that can charge up the lume on all my favorites, and take pictures of them, every ten minutes. Just to see who has the longest and brightest lume. The vortex has superluminova (think C1?) on all markings on the dial, The pip at 12 o´clock, and all three hands are ”completly” coated. The reason for the ” ” is that the hands have a thinner coat at the tip, so it glows just a bit weaker than the rest. The lume is a nice ice blue. This is not an ”all night” glower, but I guess it would last a good three-four hours, still wisible after that, but not to the point that one can read the arabic numerals. I would rate it alongst my citizen divers (not as good as the autozilla that is) But the vortex is easily out-lumed by most seikos, and definatly by the Benarus Megalodon. But even as a lume-nut, I wouldn´t hold it against the Vortex. The lume is as it needs to be, but not more (imho).

And one next to the Benarus Megalodon, for comparison. Both had 30 sec charge with led torch.

To sum up, and ad some …
I really like the Dievas Vortex. It has a great wrist prescence, and I have had quite a few ” hmm, that is a nice watch, what is it?” So all in all, if you are looking for something in between sporty/clA$$y, the Vortex might be for you. Although a bit more on the sporty side. It is as Dievas states it, a mix of a flieger/diver.
So, can absolutely recommend this one, and mine is a ceeper!
Thanks for reading.

Rolf

Rolf, that's a very good and fresh review. I like what you wrote. I was one of the very first to see the Vortex at Anders' shop but I found it too small for my 6.75 inch wrist and somehow now, after all the 3Ters have owned and flashed it on screen, I seem to be regretting that decision.

Who knows, one day I might shoot one down. Enjoy that Vortex in good health for a long time.

thankyou.gif! I was quite unsure about it beeing to small also. And I have a close to 8" wrist (wide, but not so thick) But as you can see from the wrist shot, It dosn´t look small at all. The sheriff got me back on track when I was worried about the size, and he was very right indeedThumbsUp02.gifAs William pointed out, the key is how big it is from lug to lug, and this beeing 54mm, it`s not small, thats for sure. If you get one some day, I´m sure u wont be disapointed!

Rolf

Fantastic, detailed review and incredible pics Rolf!!!!thumbsup.gif

The Vortex continues to be one of my favorites and mine has been living on a Blasted Hardware Bond Nato for some time...really great combo for the Vortex IMO.

Thanks for taking the time to put this excellent writeup together...and by all means enjoy your sweet Dievas Vortex!

Thanks a million guys! Really appreciate your comments. So will see if I`ll make another review in the future, if/when I get something I feel deserves it. Nex in is a Sea Devil from Watchdaddy1/William, but even as great as it is, It´s more than enough good reviews out on that one:0)
But, have gott`n an itch for a Breitling Superocean Herritage, so that might be my next grail, we`ll see.

And Stew, couldn`t agree more on the zulu on the vortex. I mix it up with a black/yellow james bond and a black/grey. Both look great on it. But also love the leater strap it came on, all good!
