What attracted me in a split second to the AL was not the dial but that strikingly huge, battlefield-grade, bomb-shelter specs of a case. Then it was the bezel, followed by the caseback and lastly the crown. The dial is unique but not outstanding. the hands will surely benefit from s few doses of steroids. This might be the single biggest enhancement much needed by the AL.

In my opinion, I think the lack of the most common beacons: the 12 and 6 markers --- are to the dial's debit. For those of you who have younger eyes, waking up in darkness in the middle of the night and checking on the time may be easy and effortless. But for a dinosaur with fossilized eyes like mine, the uncommon distribution of the dial's elements, without the 12 and 6, is a challenge. It's not easy to even approximate the time in those dimly-lit, wee hours of dawn. The lume on my treasured AL, however, can be beaten on land, in the water, anyday, anywhere, anytime by a Seiko's. Thus my frustrations are somewhat more unique;).

Now with those points aside, I think Dial #5 is the best i have seen so far. I like #7 too but #5 is so far, the best I have seen.

Anders is one of us and needs all the help he can get to either improve on the present AL or to launch another variant, a more conventional one. I hope all the inputs and great design ideas keep pouring in.smile8.gif

Those were my 2 cents....maybe 3 cents.;)

I really like the case, bezel, strap options and caseback. The current dial is a deterrent to buying one.

So, I like the dial number 3. Here are some thoughts:

1. Omit the inner ring, but leave teh outer ring. This would be cool if it was lume.

2. Thicken the hour markers at 1 2 4 5 7 8 10 11

3. Perhpas make the hour markers longer.

4. Simply the chapter ring as shown in design 01.

Other than these items, I think the design is on it's way to being much better.

Seems like everyone loves the case, and there is a consistent cry for a simplified, basic / classic dial.  No. 5 is getting closer, but not quite there yet.  9  instead of 09,  6 instead of 06.  simple dot markers on gloss black dial, bright white hands.  square tip  or round dot second hand.  The beauty of this beast is the case, and the awesome case back.  Nothing fancy, just give us a tried true classic !

As suggested,  go with a different name ... "Aquaclassica" ?

Thanks,happy1.gif

Jim

Agree with Jim on the dial designs above.  The metallic circular-brushed dial goes really well with the amount of steel on the watch.

I'd go with the #05 dial and black hands for the "Aqualuna Classic" look.

And maybe...just maybe, another design with an inky-black gloss dial, applied baton markers and steel sword hands

My Photoshop skills aren't that up to scratch yet, but anyone is welcome to give this a try.  What do you guys think?

YES SIR -- GLOSSY BLACK DIAL would JUMP out of that case... !  Let's go "AQUA-CLASSICA" !!!  Simplify, retro, art-deco, classic.

just to keep everyone on track we are only looking to re-design the dial and not rename /re-design the entire the watch :D...I am happy with the original dial with just the addition of the solid lume filled hands as pictured by Eric but would be very happy to see either dials #05 or #09 as an option hand6.gifhand6.gif

A gloss black dial would be super!!  But the case has to stay and exactly as it is. Making it a little bigger would  be a dream come true. The massive case is simply the distinctive feature of the Aqua Luna. Nothing comes near it.

Here's #6 and #7!

#6 is a variation on #5.
#7 is something a bit more minimalist. I was playing with the "D" shape...

 Eric

Beautiful job Zarith... #6 is a real strong design. Personally, I'd love to see that dial in black (not much of a steel dial guy).

;) Here you go!

#06 on the left, and a modified version with a glossy black dial on the right.

Cheers!

Excellent job. Im digging the #6B but with a matt black dial is my pick.

I have also come out with some dial designs. Will post them up soonish.
