I can understand how you could have that perspective, I suppose, but I feel like I am looking at it another way.  Ralf and Steve have said that the cost is equal, they are just trying to supply the best option for everyone.  In order to know what that is, it's important to know what opinions are.  I'm not looking to nit pick over "freebies," but I also don't think these are freebies at all, I think they are a part of the overall package that is a Benarus watch.

Given that they are equal in cost and effort, my choice would be the box over the roll.  That is my personal choice.  I think that since expectations have been set so high - to the outstanding credit of Ralf/Steve, please don't take that as anything beside what I am trying to communicate - there was an implied expectation that the case would be something as good or better.  Now, setting aside the point that depending on your perspective, this may indeed be a better option, if your expectation and desire was to own at least a similar box to the SD, there was at least the potential for some disappointment with a dramatically different offering.

Given that, all I'm saying is that in my opinion, the overall package is not as valuable to me as it would be with the box.  I may be up in the night, or in the vast minority, or too inexperienced to really understand what a weathered and experienced watch collector understands, but I absolutely don't think I'm complaining about freebies.  The packaging is a way to differentiate your product and add value, whether real or perceived.  Granted, it has no effect on the actual core product, but since we are discussing the packaging here in this thread, I don't see any issue with taking into consideration all opinions.  I haven't seen any insults yet, so I think the conversation has been healthy.

I can't believe that Ralf and Steve read this and get offended or angry because someone communicates their opinion, on the contrary, I'm sure they value all feedback.  They have actually demonstrated that in their actions, so I don't fear they will take anything away from us in future products because of some complaints or shared opinions.  Those who come to these forums to discuss items are always more passionate than the general public, so I think this is to be expected, actually.

I'm not here to convince anyone to believe the way I do, I just like people to understand where I'm coming from.  If you think differently than I do, I have no problem with that at all.  If we all thought the same, this would be a very boring place to spend any time.  Not passing judgment on anyone, just sharing my opinion and hoping I'm respected while doing it.

Well said, I was also surprised to hear so many calling the case a freebie! So, you're gonna pop it in a Jiffy Bag?? My Oris Diver came in a huge box & case that was totally unusable, the SD case is fantastic, if it's the same price offer either, or put a premium on the case, it will sell.

Rob

Guys these watches would sell none the less even if shipped in just a card board box. So be happy with what you get good grief.

A custom watch I have did come in just a card board box and I was just as happy with it as my Gevril Sea Cloud that came with the big fancy $200 box.

Guys it is the watch companies prerogative so please chill out. ;)

Hello, Thanks everyone, your feedback is welcome and Ralf and I read and discuss what everyone says and it helps us plan for what we do in the future.

This travel roll is soft, similar in feel to the outside of the Sea Devil box. We will have more 4 watch boxes available for sale for those that would like to have a Benarus box, and the cost is minimal to you and the quality is high on these storage boxes.

I understand why some want the box, it is cool and very nice quality, and so is the roll, you will see.

and just so everyone knows, I still have 9 yellow Sea Devils and 3 orange Sea Devils for sale, that ships in the box that we are discussing.

Greetings and Regards,
Steve Laughlin

From my perspective, and in reading this thread over again, I think the only people who are upset are those that are trying to tell people to change the way they are feel about the packaging.  I don't think anyone is really fired up about the choice of packaging, they are just sharing their opinions, that's all.  One of my favorite watches came to me only wrapped in bubble wrap, but I also wasn't expecting anything fancy.

I would respectfully ask that everyone allow people to share their opinions and we not take it as them being angry or overly passionate about what is really a smaller issue.  Like I said before, this was a thread about the packaging, so people will be discussing their opinions about it here, whether pro or con.  Lets use this as a forum to share ideas and opinions, not knock people down for sharing them.

I'll end by saying that I love you all and I can't wait to receive my watch, even if it ends up coming to me wrapped in wet newspaper.

I agree -- the wrap looks darn cool.   I thought the idea was to buy a watch, any packing is a plus.

Though I prefer a case of some sort, I realize the value in the Moray itself. If it was sent it was sent in bubble wrap housed in a cardboard box, I still think it is one he// of a bargain...

So how about this for a solution.?

Those new Moray owners who would prefer a Sea Devil case can swap their roll with those Sea Devil owners who either have too many cases, or who would just prefer the watch roll.

It would help to even out supply and demand....all for the cost of shipping to each other.

And since I'm patiently waiting for my Moray to arrive, and even though I truly appreciate the innovation and thought that Steve and Ralf have put into the roll, would anyone want to swap their case for my roll?

our Sea Devils came with boxes though and collectors like the original carriages and paperwork on resale if any of us ever decide to sell so the only value of the box is that our watches came in them and need to stay with them in order to keep them original....good try Novice :D...if you want a box buy one ....it has been mentioned several times already that there will be some FS or better yet....buy a Sea Devil and then you will not only have a box but a awesome watch too! :D
