As I wait for my meds to kick in after having my knee scoped today I said why not to posting a poll on the forum regarding an idea I had for a watch design. I know this idea would not make it this year or maybe even next, heck I may not get any of you all to reply or even get laughed out of the forum. I know the trends and sentiments toward dive watches are BIG, real BIG. Well I'm a big guy and that works for me, but my wife isn't and she likes Benarus watches, but just too darn big for her. So I had an idea and I'll like to ask if anyone else in the forum agrees. With the introduction of the titanium 47mm I would like to ask if you would be interested in a Titanium Mini Moray. This would be a watch in the 35-37mm range. I have no idea if Steve and Ralf would build it, but if enough of us say yes, it would be the first step to getting the idea on to the table for discussion. There are many modes of introduction for such a watch so please weigh in. Good idea, silly idea, waste of forum space, etc... Thank you all in advance for your thoughts, comments and participation Jeff

As creater of the poll I'll put my two cents in and take one without any reservation. I know my wife would wear it without hesitation. Titanium would make it light enough and she can dive with it as well.

I agree with Oscar's thoughts/questions above (which I don't see now). I think that these considerations are even more critical with a micro-brand than a "big" player watch company, because a micro-brand really needs to guarantee that they can sell the entire run immediately, but who knows. I think that the concept gets even more challenging when you consider most women (I emphasize "most" because there are some, but it is a large minority IMO) do not really get the whole WIS thing and I would say (all in my opinion of course) that most do not consider an automatic timepiece practical for daily or rotational use...I can already hear...'you mean I have to set the time and wind the watch everytime I wear it?', if it is not a regular part of the watch rotation. For many WIS (me included), there is something very engaging and tactile about setting and winding a mechanical timepiece. I can think of a few big name brands that have struggled with the thought of creating a true, womens dive automatic (Doxa Coraline, Nymph). I happen to really like larger timepieces on women (heck, I've got my wife wearing up to 39mm timepieces (quartz)...although she was eyeing up my Anonimo D-Date the other day and actually slipped it on...I kind of liked it on her, but she was concluding that it was just a bit too big. Sorry Chris...I stated that if OP were a watchmaker would you build 100 watches in a unpopular size that may not sell? ...also rephrase your poll to who would put a $300. deposit (non refundable due to high risk of buyers backing out) on a 35-37mm Ti Moray that may cost @ $600. and I believe you will get a more realistic answer...it's easy to say I'll take one when no money is involved...jmho... ...both my girfriend and 22yr old daughter like 42mm watches and go through my boxes all the time trying on the Big watches...they even ask for a "mans watch" as this has become very popular in movies and TV and women like to be stylish and current in what they wear ...a watch is just another piece of jewelry for most women...at least the ones I know.

My wife wears a 37mm white porcelain / diamond studded Chanel watch and loves it and she is Khmer and has a TINY wrist. BTW - it cost me $35 at the market ;-)

I think either a 35-37mm in stainless, or a 40-42 in stainless or ti would be a better bet. If you're aiming it at women I don't think ti is really necessary (ti is a little unusual and uncommon, as is a smaller women's watch from a micro brand, don't make things more complicated by combining the two). And if it's not aimed specifically at women 40-42mm is more universal in size. Plus, I don't think it has be a mini Moray, why not a totally new design? I love the Moray, but the whole thing will need designing and tooling up for; it's the perfect opportunity for a new design. But in short, yes I probably would buy one.

The only point of using titanium would be its light weight. Every time I show a friend, male or female, one of my dive watches the first thing out of their mouth is, wow that's heavy. It's just a matter of sizing down a great selling and designed watch to a much smaller market. The current models easily serve those who like larger watches. If you are not in that category you have little to no selection. Of course it's all about making money and selling out, but before one would even get to that point it's best to determine the market desire. Thank you for the comments thus far. There are some great points being made. Please keep them coming. Jeff

I agree with O, my wife has a very small wrist and all of her watches are in the 39 to 44 mm range...if I let her she would be wearing my watches every day....but just like she does not drive my car, she does not wear my watches I too agree that she would prefer a quartz watch, she also likes Citizen Eco's, you know the "green" thing. maybe a good compromise would be a cool looking Moray like watch with a hi end quartz movement made specifically for the ladies....not to speak for Ralf and Steve but as O said if they were to build 100 watches and we were willing to put up a $300 non-refundable deposit to get a cool watch for our better halves I would bet they would do it and with a quartz movement I would guess the cost could be quite lower then with an auto.

I was thinking 20 to 30 to keep the interest up just on the basis of it being limited. I'd stay away from the lower end movement just because it would put the watch in the lower end category and potential resale at a later date may not be as high. One of the great aspects of these specialized watches is they retain their value. The high end watches are like buying a new car, as soon as you take it out of the box you lost 20-30%. I don't like that and I'd much rather buy second hand because you're getting ripped off because of the name. You don't have that with Benarus watches and this makes it so much easier to fund. I'd stick with it with even a smaller watch.

My one friend who said this is an Oil Exec and he was wearing a Longiness. His Japanese/Argentinian wife had a ladies Rolex (she's tiny). Money is not much of an issue for them. They both loved the watch, but said no just because of weight. These guys weren't the only one's but they came to mind first.
