it is a good discussion for sure. like stated above it would be difficult for a "micro" brand to do such a thing without taking a good size deposit to help them know they will get a return on their money. even with that said doing a small run would put the cost up as there is so much tooling that would need to be done to make the product.

I voted no, I personally like the weight on larger sized watches & find that 44-45mm is the smallest I can wear these days with 46-48mm being the real sweet spot on my wrist. Even my wife rarely will wear a watch smaller than 38mm now & has several in the 40-42mm range.

Personally I love a large watch on a woman much more than a petite little jewellery style thing. I think the Rolex subs @ 40mm or whatever look great on a chick. It's a real statement. Then again i love a chick in a tux too. Maybe I have a problem......

It is really a personal preference.  You have to look at sizing in a broad generalized sense.  Which will most likely sell?  I, for one, would like a 44-45mm Megalodon, but will it happen?  I'm not even going to hold my breathhammer.gif.

Interesting disgussion absolutely.
My wife, and her friends all have "mens watches", meaning large (from 42mm and up)
But what is apperently really hot in these parts of the woods (Norway/Sweden) is SD"hommages", but in PLASTIC!!! And in every insane colour you can think of. There`s a whole lot of crappy cheap brands that make them, and when I tried to buy one (overpirced at $55) for a christmas present, they vere all but sold out all over.
So looks like the trend (at least here) is larger watches, but light/plastic.
And my wife also has a hard time with the whole "what, it`s not ever accurate? And I have to wind it and adjust it?!" She couldn`t see any reason for why one would by anything other than a quartz with minmal service needs ...

Folks, great opinions.  I like the plastic watch idea.

What do you think Steve, a Moray - plastic????

I'm sure you can work the specs so it's good to a depth of 1000cm

hammer.gif

I still think the idea of a small version of the Moray watch would be attractive.  Obviously, it comes to sales.  No issue there, but there are almost 500 hits on this thread and about 20 ticks on the poll.  Something is off or are we all checking this thread out at work, friends house, etc.....

I understand the bigger the better and even though I have a few big watches I'm not looking at me for this really (though I do like the idea which is motivating enough to put my $$ down if it was offered).

Maybe I just live and work in the wrong area as well for I have yet to find a Miss or Mrs walking around with anything bigger than 38mm in the Pentagon and around Washington DC.  Ok, I'm not in the fashion center of the world, but I'm finding it hard to see my wife wearing such a big watch.  Actually she won't, so it's not even a question of it.  It's a start of NO and nothing more.

So how do you adapt a great design into something that could fit a smaller market?

How do you allow for the injustice of a miniature (smaller) version of a muscle dive watch?

Thanks all for your contributions so far.  Please add more opinion that's valid to the topic.

I agree, this watch is way to big for me and my wrist is 7.25 inches.   Something a touch smaller would be cool, but then again I guess that's why it's the MEGALADON and not a MINILADON

That's why I don't and won't own one.  Great watch, looks cool, but not for me.

Lastly, I also don't think the idea of a Mini Moray is about knocking out a cheap watch to make some bucks on and keep
some folks happy.

I don't think this is the business model of Benarus and I doubt they would do such a thing. So far from what I have seen their products are top notch and I would expect top notch on any watch made, even a Mini Moray if it were ever developed.

And if I wanted a cheap knock off at a local flea market why would I even be on this forum. It's about quality, precision and a beautiful time piece that will last a life time +.

Cheers,

Jeff

Hehe, well ... I was just stating the trend up where I live (NOT what I liked or wanted), and also it seems to be the same in many other parts of europe(not thatI understand why). And NOT IN ANY WAY suggesting a plastic version of ANYTHING! no.gif But then again I guess such a small number of pieces wouldn`t have to consider "trends" anyway, since it would be more of a niche.

But, the question/poll was "would you buy one ...?" And my answer was no, based on the idea that this would be for our "better" halfes, and mine likes bigger watches, also since I for one would never wear something so small (jmho).

So, no, did not suggest a new poll of anyone wanting to buy a crappy plastic! So, if I wasn`t precise enough I appologise for that, but you got me wrong.

Would have a hard time going down as the "guy who suggested the plastic version "dog smile.gif

Just so you know, my suggestion of doing a plastic watch was intended solely as a joke.  I honestly could not imagine anyone doing such a thing so please don't take my comments regarding plastic seriously.

No worries, I understood that you didn`t mean that seriously, only wanted to rectify myselfe from a obvious misunderstanding that I might have suggested a plastictoon1.gif
So, guess we can close it at NO ONE SUGGESTED A PLASTIC:0)
And get back to the original question you posted.

Rolf

My very lovely wife dog smile.gif has tiny wrists and wears a ladies's 2-tone DateJust, her favorite. She has 2 others in 32mm or in medium size but she prefers the small one. So to buy her a bigger one, and in automatic, would be a No-No for me.

She told me she only fusses over watches because she knows I'm a WIS. But given a choice, she would prefer a quartzie anyday.

Also, from what I know or from the women I know, they really coordinate their watches and jewelry....like a stainless steel or a white gold watch to go with white gold jewelry....that sort of thing. A watch in gray ti would be a challenge for our wives to find matching gray jewelry for and the watch might just end up sitting in the drawer for a long time.

Jeff, check out women's watches at the mall. You'll be surprised a vast majority are in quartz (not auto and not manual) for the simple reason, IMHO, most women don't really fuss about watches in the same way they do about other stuff. The watch companies know this. Patek, for example with its 24 line, positions this to women.....and the 24 line is quartz and loaded with bling.
