Since there has been a couple pocket watches popping up on the forum lately I decided to put this up for sale.....it is the last of my pocketwatch collection, I found it in a box a couple weeks ago.
This is actually kind of rare piece, it is a Grade 176, 17J, adjusted to 4 position Getty Model with steel escape wheel, in the original salesman sample case, lever set. Based on my research there were less than 1600 of these movements produced. The serial number on this movement is 1736031, dating it to 1904.
The interesting thing about this movement is there are no markings on it except the serial number and Illinois Watch Company, Springfield, USA. This further confirms that this really was a salesman sample and was probably used to show the movement to customers interested in private label watches....this was very common for the Illinois 16S, 17J movements of that era.
The watch is currently running, but has not been serviced for probably 7 or 8 years, there are a couple small chips in the dial, one at the 12 second mark on the sub dial and another at the lever set mechanism. Also, as you can see in the picture it is missing the hour hand...not a big deal to replace.
I'll sell it for $150 shipped to CONUS including PP fees.
I also have a couple pocket watch storage boxes, one holds 40 watches and the other holds 20...if there is any interest let me know and I'll send you some pics and a price.
