From 1962 to 1965 the Tianjin Seagull watch factory produced 1,700 chronograph watches for issue to the Chinese Airforce. Whenever I get hold of one of these it will not be for sale... But: Re-issued by the original manufacturer, Tianjin Seagull, is the 1963 Chinese Airforce chronograph in several variants. First, the "Seagull 1963" an in-house re-issue that looks as close to one of the original 1,700 as it gets: Seagull Chronograph, Model no. 1963. This particular model is the only model that carries the "1963" designation in the current Seagull lineup. Features the "19 ZUAN" dial style as close to the vintage as it gets, with the chinese characters in the lower part meaning "China" and "Tianjin watch factory". Solid case back, again with the inscription "Tianjin watch factory" (top), the "1963" (bottom). The logo in the center is framed by stylized chinese characters meaning "China". Stainless steel case Domed acrylic crystal Stainless steel caseback with inscriptions Handwound ST19 chronograph movement, 19 Jewels Blue hour and minute hands Small seconds at 9 (blue hand) Central red chronograph seconds 30 minute totalizer at 3 (blue hand) WR 3 bar Whitish dial Applied gold colored markers Diam. 37mm, Lug width 18mm, lug to lug 47mm Comes on a khaki colored Nato strap. Seagull 1963 Chronograph (model no. 0446), again also sold as the Seagull "Military Chronograph" or "Chinese Air Force Chronograph". The difference of this specific reissue and the original are significant here: the case style and size, the tachymeter scale on the bezel and the case finish. Apart from the dial layout and the movement this is more or less a different watch The Bezel is brushed, the markings are filled with black paint. The case has a neat combination of brushed and polished surfaces. The pushers are rectangular. Made by Tianjin Seagull, the most famous watch manufacturer of China.
