Both played their careers essentially for one team, had the natural ability, learned skill, intellect and leadership to be the best and have earned the NFL's highest achievements. Both decided to continue to play the game they love even when doing so means going to a town with a losing record. In the annals however, Brett Favre will always be a Packer and yet this season he will be a professional football player... a starting Quarterback in the NFL. That is pretty cool. He has given the Packer's fans (and all football fans) years of brilliant performances and I wish him the best.

No one can argue Favre is a future hall of famer. That much is certain. However your comparison to Joe Montana and the Niners is faulty. Montana was forced out in a most unceremonious fashion. Favre made a decision, broadcast it to the world while weeping and saying things like, "I  have no regrets..." only to change his mind months later. When given the opportunity to rejoin the team which had clearly had to move on without him, he was unable citing he was unable to get beyond all that had happened. funny, a few days later he claimed this wasn't personal, just business... Well then why weren't you able to treat as such in Green Bay?

There is a lot of division here in green Bay. Ted Thompson has been vilified. I don't care for the guy, but he did what he had to do as the GM of the franchise. You are either a Green Bay Packers fan or a Brett Favre fan. I was a Packers fan long before Brett Favre came to town and will continue to be a fan of my hometown team until I die. As for Favre, he will regret this mistake and I just hope he doesn't get hurt. When I was a wee lad, Bart Starr quarterbacked this team, retired and was replaced by Scott Hunter. He had my child-like support and I was awed to meet him and get his autograph at a Father/son pancake and porkies breakfast. I missed Bart Starr but knew the Packers had a new quarterback. and so it went on through the years. I am a Packer fan regardless if the quarterback is Jerry Tagge, David Whitehurst, Lynn Dickey, Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers. The Favre memorabilia will be removed from the Packer shrine and true Packer fans will root for the Packers.
