You got the finger on it.
They are modified and I even suspect that they are cut in 2 to add a middle part for elongation.
Like some oil tankers was upgraded into super-tankers years ago in suspicious countries: Result was boats breaking in two at first storms and definitive ban from leading insurance companies.
