Bought a quantity of Swiss "entrenching tools" (read: shovel lol) a couple of years ago as they came with very nice water-resistant leather covers stamped with the year of manufacture and maker's name. Using them up pretty quickly and the WWII type getting tough to find, I saved a few out for myself and some friends that are fond of this leather. It's very dense and pretty stiff, so can be challenging to work with. The plus-side is that it's very water-resistant and has really great coloration and marbling; each one is different. Many of the stamps measure at 26mm-28mm, so one cover can yield a strap retaining the original marks for watches such as Panerai and VDB without cutting into "the goodstuff". Also found a small supply of NOS surplus British military issue "rot-proof" Irish linen cord a while back. The color is great, and cool that it's vintage, too.
