Well, I've apparently stepped on a very sensitive and historically energized topic. My apologies for that is all I can offer. peace.gif

I don't drink Kool Aid, and I guess I will leave it at that.
no apologies needed Chris...I did not aim my reply at you or anyone in general, but to all who may read this...all I have to say is research your purchases and buy the seller as much as the product...recently Seiko released the new Turtle and imho is twice the value of a Prometheus at twice the price and many other micros who do not tell the truth...simply put, "Swiss Made" on the Ocean Diver, really? and this was all brought on by me seeing this new Poseidon,or should I say the old Aquatimer...even the lume was copied! ...I have been mild in my thoughts on this new model, you should hear what the purists are saying! dog smile.gif

"Purists" eh...you say that like it's a good thing. Who are these purists and why should I care what they are saying? I guess if we want to talk about "purists", I have seen a persistent group of "purists" (snobs?, nitpickers?, curmudgeons?...maybe, but who am I to say), that have a problem with the IWC brand itself. I guess it all depends on how far you want to take your "purist" notions . These "purists" refer to the Aquatimer line from IWC as a distraction of the brand often referring to the styling as cartoonish and nothing more than a gussied up fashion watch. These "purists" point to IWC as a brand that has lost its traditional design virtues to pursue sales from the uneducated masses that flock to the next shiny object. Hmmm...really?

Do I agree with these purists?...eh hem...well no, as I've always appreciated the Aquatimer line from it's early vintage compressor design, to the excellent 3536, to the more recent Aquatimer lineup.

I certainly enjoy excellence in design, including design cohesiveness with excellent fit/finish and quality materials. Am I so rigid that I also don't appreciate a bit of design diversity within a brand? Nope. I also appreciate the heritage of the established big brands, and the nimbleness of the micros that build quality timepieces.

I guess I simply can't hang with these purist, elitist snobs...their absolute adherence to traditional structure and design may be just a bit too rigid for me, as I do believe there is room in this hobby for both tradition and classic designs, but also diversity in design that brings fun into the hobby as well...but what do I know? dog smile.gif To each his own.

if you noticed I too snickered at what the purists are saying...have not seen any negativity about the Aquatimer though...so I guess you feel this new Poseidon design is just another unique addition to the Prometheus folly of imaginative designs all their own.subtlelaugh.gif

Most of the negativity I've seen has been on IWC specific forums. Like I said, I've always had a thing for the Aquatimer, in many versions, and it continues to be on my wish list. Never a question in my mind where the inspiration for the Poseidon came from. The resemblance to the Aquatimer is why I bought one in the first place (and remember, at preorder pricing the Gen1 watch was 400Euro or ~$435). The build on these is actually quite good considering the price...the sapphire bezel is extremely well done. Imaginative design, NO...bang-for-the-buck, YES...which is why I went for it.
