The title of this message says it all; I would like to buy a Seiko Prospex Professional 300m Diver (Seiko SBBN 007); would prefer the version with the black bezel, and would welcome a strap different than the hideous Seiko standard rubber. I perfer automatics by far, but this watch appears to be a classic; why you would part with it I can't understand; it may be worth a lot more in a couple of years. Thank you for reading

Thanks; I saw that one, but I would prefer a newer model. In fact, i'm willing to pay the full price for a new one from Seyia or Higuchi, honto-yo; but I'm not sure my heart could explain to the brain why the hand just accepted to pay over USD 400 for a quartz watch. Seiya actually offers a really nice one with a black bezel, but it's over USD 600. I'm bidding on another on e-bay; we'll see. How much would be too much?

Thanks for your suggestion Shady; I love cats, but was not aware of the existence of horological felines. So I checked the WatchCat and indeed he did cough up a Seiko diver as you described at a decent price; however, I bid on a brand new one from Japan last night at a price better even than the very good offers from Seyia and Higuchi - less than $ 400, shipping included. I managed to get a Seiko 200 prospex 'Sumo' (I've also seen it being called 'Shogun' - somewhat more dignified than Sumo) also on the Bay for a really good price. I am considering modifications to the bezel; i think the 'Tuna' would look great with an orange bezel.

See the thread Big, Black and Beautiful for more details. What will you do to the Sumo? Will you do it yourself?
