What're the chances? My shopping cart system had both their primary and secondary HDD's crash early Friday morning. Fortunately they had a tertiary backup that occurs in another part of the country, but who would've thunk it?

The bad part about it for me and thousands of other vendors who use this system is that your ecommerce capability is totally shutdown while the system is restoring; about 40 hours so far :(

I backup nightly to a second HDD, because, well, what are the chances that two drives will crash in the same day?

Well, now I know it can happen!

Do you backup?

Marc

When I had my sites/forums going I had a daily general backup done and weekly I would also do a database back up to a external HD here just in case something went wrong with all that.

The chances of what you had happen Marc is slim but I have seen it happen a few times over the years. I've even heard of whole clusters of servers crashing before but that was a few years back.

Anytime you have important data like what you have Marc backup backup backup is a must. And make sure you have good Malware protection in place too. Multi-layered is best. With over lapping protection. There is no such thing as 100% safe or secure but you can do your best and when something like this happens know you did your best.

It wasn't me personally, instead, it was a company I outsource to that runs my shopping cart.

I run dual HDDs myself as my backup. . . scary.
