What none of you know is that I make a weekly visit to our local AFCC (Armed Forces Career Center)--recruiting station is no longer politically correct. At the start, I went into the Marines and Navy sections (couldn't get into the Air Force part), and, lastly, the Army.
I wanted to show my thanks for serving in some concrete way, so decided to bring food. They will eat anything, absolutely anything! The former Station Commander wanted me to always bring "healthy" things but, being me, I said no......a word to which he was not accustomed......LOL We compromised on one week of possibly pastries, popcorn, Cracker Jacks, bite-sized cupcakes, etc. BTW: healthy food now consists of--tons of fruits, veggy trays (broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, radishes, peppers, etc.), and mixed melons (watermelon, honeydew, blueberries, grapes, strawberries, kiwi, etc.)
So, it's turned into pretty much some of both: healthy and the other. There are 10 recruiters and Phillpot (P), the new Station Commander. I also bring in articles about the Bandido Charlie's--Company C of the 1/16th of the 1st Infantry Division (Army) and any humorous military things I think they might read and enjoy. I post them on whatever space is available. Surprisingly, they do read whatever it is, which surprised me.
Unless there's some objection amongst the 3T members, I will post my "report" each week. If you read it, I assume you'll get used to the names of the various Sgts.
So, here goes for today's visit--Report #1:
I passed out the Bandido Charlie pins to the 4 who were there and to SFC Phillpot, hereafter to be known as P.
Mosansky won't be back until next week--he's at some school; will try to get details from him then. Sgt. Middleton said she would give the pin to him upon his return.
They all said thanks; Klingler is going to pin it on his motorcycle jacket!--way cool idea, I think.
The station's been rearranged.....desks, cabinets, etc. When I first arrived, Nitz and Hall got up right away and showed me the new place I'll be putting my offerings.
Since my return home, I've called back there twice. Once to find out if they'd eat pumpkin pie (learned that Gamble has never had it!!!!!!!!! was told he's from Alabama where they have sweet potato pie--sounds awful.)
Second call was to say hi to the fellows who had returned after my departure.
Now, as to the P situation. Nitz indicated that none of them are really keen on him. It's night and day between him and Z--the latter was hyper and P is all business.
Anyhow, I went into his office to give him the pin for which he said thanks. About halfway through my visit, I went in again and asked him straight out if he'd prefer I didn't show up.......that I would not become hysterical or throw a fit, so he should give it to me straight.
He had been measuring something on his back wall while I was asking this, but turned around, all smiles and, frankly, I don't know what he actually said. I think it must have been a "yes", but we were suddenly discussing the changes he's made, that Z had finally cleared all his stuff out yesterday, that the new positioning of his desk, he felt, was more businesslike. He was affable; I just hope it wasn't an act--will be able to tell as time goes by, I guess.
Oh, yes. As a real side issue: Sgt. Hall told me he really liked the 3/4 length coat I was wearing. (I'm all in shades of brown today, 'cept for a white, blue, and brown turtleneck pullover under a light brown sweater), with my Zeno Explorer, and the coat is sky blue suede. When he felt it, he was blown away for some reason. I then showed them (Middleton was peering through a gap) my 3" stiletto chocolate brown heels and did a little dance step which blew their minds.........LOL
Well, guess that's it. That the sun is shining made it nice there. We'll see how things are next week. Oh, yes. Oliver and Gamble were at the MEPS = Military Entrance Processing Station.
