Just curious????You fellows that have DSLR cameras.....in your experience ....what is the best prime lense for photographing watches????Have plenty of zooms for my Canon...not the best for the watches in my opinion. Have not gotten any worth while pics....maybe it is the user. 50mm,60mm,100mm????

Don't have a DSLR. I just use a point and shoot Pentax Optio Z10. Trial and error shooting. :D

This Fall I may look into a better camera not sure what. Likely a Cannon and at least a 12+ MP. This Pentax ain't to bad though at 8.0 MP. ;)

Try shooting with camera at longest photo length, and then move in until the watch takes up most of the picture frame.  Shoot outdoors at 1 hour before sunset for natural, but not harsh light.

Try building a light box -- I haven't build one, but I think there are plans online.

Best lenses are Nikon, Leica, Zeiss, Zuiko, Pentax... but many of the after market lenses are good too.  What you want to look for is something other than the measely point and shoot lenses that are miniscule and do not focus well at close distances and sacrifice detail.

To get a really sharp image doesn't take 10million pixels...the image depends on the processor, lense, and the camera.  Go to some of the digital photo sites.

Good luck.

I shoot with a 16-85mm on a Nikon D70 when I feel like reminding myself that I am not a photographer, I have a macro lens too but who wants to look at a single hour marker full screen anyway? When I just want to take a decent lume shot I get my Point and Shoot Canon G1 out and Point and Shoot.

In general I have not been very impressed with my pictures with the D70 in terms of number of good photos and consistency but I think that is because I really need a camera that is smarter than me not the other way around.
