I would say that the SD has great lume. It is not as bright as my orange monster, but not much is. I have never found the lume to be lacking and it seems to burn throughout most of the night, especially if you give it a quick charge before bedtime. I am very happy in the lume department.

Thanks for the feedback.  I like your pic of J.P.Holland, by the way :)

Paulie, to answer your question, the lume on the Seiko BM or OM is really bright. In fact, based on what I have read in the past from another forum, it IS the gold standard for lume. I can attest to that because it beats my other watches by a mile. My son uses his black monster as a bedside night clock capable of being read easily in good darkness and a groggy pair of eyes.

Something else you might want to know about your Seiko monster: when the hour hand and minute hand align perfectly at say 12, 3:15, 6:30 and 8:45, the overlap resembles a rocket in flight. The rotor is also smaller so that there is a lower probability of early damage from frequent internal wear and tear. The tradeoff here on a smaller rotor is that power reserve is only about 24 hours.

Hey BRP.  Thanks for the feedback.  I haven't found anything that glows brighter than my OM either but then again, I don't have many high-end watches.....yet :D so I'm glad to get feedback from people who own or have owned more expensive watches.

As for the rocket ship, I've seen that mentioned in other forums and I quietly enjoy the image whenever I happen to glance at my watch and the two are overlapping.

Now that I am the proud owner of a Sea Devil I would like to state that I am also VERY happy with the Lume.  I just did the "bask it in ambient light and walk into a dark hallway test" here at work and it glows nicely.  The OM is still king but the SD is darned close.

Now all I need is a watch winder for the OM because I think the SD will be my daily wear for a while.

Anyone have any recommendations for a decent winder for under $150??
