I was wondering just how long the battery life would be on the Quartz Orsa Sea Angler. I bought mine new about 6 months ago and let it run for 3 months. Then I read you should pull the crown and stop the watch if you are not wearing it to save battery. I did this 3 months ago. Today, picked it up, pushed crown in, didn't work. Pulled crown out and pushed in several times. Began to work. Stopped in a few minutes. Couple of hours later, did same thing. Started and ran just a few seconds. I'm hoping it's just the battery. I bought this new from the factory via the bay, and thought I would get better life. Or, could it be more serious? Any experience from you Orsa Quartz owners? Mitch

easiest thing to do is put a new battery in it ...and pulling the crown out won't save on battery life......watches are made to run and that is my advice... let it run especially since it is powered by a Ronda which has a 45mo. battery life accoring to them....if the battery doesn't do it contact Orsa/Berg which would have been the best thing to do 1st imo as Berg stands 100% behind his watches hand6.gifhand6.gif

Thanks for the quick reply! 45 months is a long time! Strangely, about 20 minutes ago, I reset the time on the watch and the thing started running again! Been running 20 minutes. Maybe the contact was not quite right. And, thanks for the advice....I'll leave it on all the time now. First time I've ever stopped a watch intentionally! I am well pleased with the watch and plan to wear it often. And I will try Berg if the problem is not the battery.

Silas you are the 2nd WIS I've read recently who has experienced this after having the crown pulled to save battery life and then restart after what seemed to be a failed battery....it may have something to do with having to sit a while once you push the crown in as the Ronda may operate differently from other quartz movements...I am not experienced with this movement but maybe someone else can educate ushand6.gif

Pulling the crown out for quartz watch storage will save only an insignificant 0.0000001% of the battery life.  But pulling the crown out will also allow moisture and dust to enter the case. For a quartz, just leave the battery in. In my case, I have a quartz Swatch that I use for regulating my automatics and I make it a point to change the battery, irregardless of the short length of time used, at every birthday of mine. This ensures there's always a good battery that won't leak inside the watch.:)

Some quartz movements do have a power save feature, in which case you would want to pull the crown out if not using for long periods, but it varies by movement. If you figure out which movement it is, you can check Ronda's site - they have very good info on each movement available, and would explain whether it has the corwn-out power save feature or not.

Thanks for the reply, guys! This morning I reset the watch and it started running. Left the crown out and it ran for 3 hours correctly. Decided to put it on my wrist and push crown in and screw it in. Ran for about 2 minutes and stopped. I'm bringing it in to my watch guy ( real professional, worked for Omega) and see what he thinks. I'll let you know what the "mystery" is!! One thing for sure....I'm NEVER pulling the crown on a quartz watch again!!

UPDATE! Brought the Sea Angler to my watch guy. He opened it, cleaned the contacts, checked the battery, put it back together with same battery and it works FINE! His comments: As you guys mentioned: "When you pulled the crown out to save the battery (which he, too, agreed is insignificant!) it let in some moisture (I AM in the middle of a SWAMP! He actually said that!) and the contacts were affected. The battery in the watch is good....I expect it will last 5 years." So, I will NEVER pull the crown out to save a battery again. (And to think, I was going to do that to my Quartz Omega Bond! The Horror!! So, all is well on the bayou! I have the watch on now, and am enjoying every minute of it. By the way, a BaliHa'i orange rubber strap matches the dial PERFECTLY!!
