Here are my top five choices for BEST BANG-FOR-THE-BUCK watches that cost between $100 and $300. See what you think:

1. Seiko Knight (Black or White):

In my opinion the best Seiko Diver for the money. It glows every bit as bright as the monster and is just as comfortable to wear. Plus, it looks just as well with a suit as it does with a sport shirt. It is just a great looking watch that looks far more refined than most others in its price range.

2: Invicta 2729/9938/9937:

Invicta's best watch for the money. Period. Especially when you can get the blue model on sale with a coupon at shopnbc for as little as $209.99. Great bracelet, gold plated Swiss ETA movement, and a 5-year warranty from shopnbc.

3. Trias Backgammon:

This is the best Trias watch going. Put any other name on this Unitas 6497 watch and you'll pay at least twice as much for it. Onion crown, screwed-in exhibition back, decent lumn on the hands, screw-in lugs for the strap, and a solid coin style case. Two-year warranty.

4. Piljot Aviator NewFlight:

This large, hand wind, Russian 3105 movement watch is simply an amazing value. It is drop dead gorgeous in a simplistic sort of way and you get the impression you could hammer nails with it and it would continue running. Plus, it has an incredible run time of 60 plus hours on a full wind. Amazing.

5. Stuhrling Sea Lion:

Ok, it has a questionable Chinese made Lexus movement. But, the darn watch is so damn good looking and well made otherwise I can't help but put it on the list ahead of some others. It has a beautiful dial and one of the nicest bracelets I have ever seen in this price range. This model seems to be made a lot better than my early Stuhrling watches.

NOW WHAT'S ON YOUR TOP FIVE?
:)

I like your list. Especially the Zodiac. That is a really nice looking watch. And, I'd mug ya' for that 3075 :D:D. I didn't include the 8926 as the new model has fallen well below $100 now. Otherwise it would be a must have in any list.

Tissot makes a lot of darn nice watches. I've only owned one and I sold it. The Lochman's though, I don't have a clue about. I see you and others here posting about them, but I know absolutely ZIP about the watches. :?

I was basing it on New Street Price. Or, with coupon price, etc.:)

This is tough because I got so many great watches that are preowned and in 95% plus condition for less than $300.  For example, Tissot Seastar 1000, Victorinox Swiss Army 9G-600, Invicta 2014, Glycine Airman (actually bougt BNIB for $50 some years ago).................heck I can give you 5 Seikos for under $150.00. :dude:

Jacque Lemans Military.......

Seiko Monsters..............

Tissot PRS516 Automatic...........

Trias Unitas 6498............

Poljot Aviator.........................

Ken, I think your Invicta 2014 would qualify. At the end of its first life, shopnbc was selling them out for 279.95 or so with a free winder.

I like that JL. Today, they would probably put a Miyota in that model.

(1) In the "disposable" watch category, go with Alpha. Best prices on eBay and through http://www.alpha-watch.com/. My new favorite Alpha is this one, which I call the Alpha Zodiac:

(2) Trawl the sales boards regularly on TimeZone.com and PMWF.com (and others). I scored this Tissot Seastar 1000 in excellent condition and with all packaging. It's a great watch, and I paid only $250. (I love the off-center exhibition window on the case back.)

(3) Invicta takes a beating for a lot of its watches and business practices, but it does occasionally turn out a watch that hits on all cylinders. For example, the 1948 series (latest iteration) is all Swiss made and doesn't have a clunker in any of the three models available (if you can still find them available, that is).

(4) I also bought the Locman 1970 automatic, and it's a great piece. Definitely an ideal watch for people who love big watches.

The model number is CET05001W  I have seen them refered to gmt models and there are several variations including a very nice blue dialed model :D

you can find them on the bay if you search for "orient GMT" though I didn't see the white dial one this morning. you should be able to get this one for under a hundred dollars anyway. I seem to remember that I paid 99 plus shipping but they can be had for as low as 80 now..

Fun topic!

I had a hard time at first, because I needed to define "Bang" in my mind...

"Came down to Accuracy and Aesthetics for me..All were pretty close to satisfying

the $100 to $300 parameters...Many of my watches allegedly sell for much more, I just didn't pay that much.

Number One is the Edox...I love this watch...Got it on eBay for $166 shipped.

If I did not feel guilty about ignoring my other watches I'd likely wear this every

day...

Got this Zodiac V Wolf on the'Bay as well $186 shipped....Very accurate, and built like a cinderblock Sh**house...

This Chase Durer was selected because it is super accurate and very nice looking..The most comfortable watch I own...$129 from a wholesaler

This little Sector made the list because it is dead nuts accurate...It has been tracking within 3 seconds of my atomic wall clock for 2 months....Easily my most accurate watch..I got the carbon dial version as well which gives ordinary quartz accuary...still very good but nothing like this little guy...Got 'em for $56 each on Overstocks year end close out.  The bracelet is worth the cost here too.

My final choice won out by a narrow margin (again because it is extremely accurate) over several other candidates..This Invicta was bought through a forum sale for $155 plus shipping and includes a Rolex bracelet.....Invicta Elite Chrono #9225

Watches that should have made my list and didn't. . ...

were my 9937, which gains 3 minutes a day,  My really coolSwiss Zeno chrono which turned out not to be Swiss, and  my Locman which I just don't like very much.  My Pumpkin Zodiac came in #6...I love that one too!  I have about forty watches roughly 2/3 are mechanical...I am quite surprised that my choices had 4 of 5 with quartz movements...'Didn't realize I was such an accuracy nut..My wrist time doesn't closely reflect these 5 choices though....Life is such a voyage of self discovery!

Geez, you guys forget pretty quickly!  What about last years deal of the year, the Shnoop VX-200 Accutron for $249.  I can't beat that for bang for the buck.

That's part of the fun of this forum,  all the old threads bringing back all those "remember when..." memories.

I have mostly 'affordable' stuff so I'd have to list the Seiko 5s, sport and superior.

Russians, there's lots to be had for that price range.

Orients! I've got a couple that I'll never get rid of

I don't have enough variety to get a top 5 because I also enjoy picking up vintage watches but there's lots in that category that would fit into the price range and bang for buck heading.

I seen a friend the other day wearing a Monster, and man it looked awesome, it was a blk face, on rubber, it just reached out and caught my eye, but I came to 3T with Zeno (coke) Airplane and I miss it, but that monster looked good for a second work watch.  Hmm...Monster looks to be the bang for the buck.

subtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gif Imagine my surprise when I log in this morning. There's an interesting new thread that wasn't there the night before that has members I don't recognise, but quite a few that I do, then lo and behold, I'm 3/4s of the way through it befor I figure out from someone elses comment, that it's a 2yr old thread. Here I was, thinking that there had been a flurry of activity while I sleptmistake.gifmistake.gifmistake.gifsubtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gif:D.

Just picked up a great bang for buck watch -- Zodiac Desert Master -- It really feels like something much more high end.
