You should get this.

I recently purchased two direct power cords and a remote mute buttons from Safe-n-sound1.com for my V1 and my wife’s Escort.  We’ve always had a direct hook-up on our cars for a clean install (no hanging cords).  This system makes it easier to connect and you can add the convenience of a remote mute button.  I connected mine to one of the steering column stalks.  It makes for an easy tap of the finger to mute.

The direct connect wire comes with your choice of T-tap or 2 types of fuse taps depending on which type of fuses you have in you car.  All you need to do is pull out a fuse and attach the tap and push the fuse back in.  It’s that simple.

For those with a V1, you can also get a splitter/adapter to attach the V1 concealed display.

Mike was a pleasure to deal with and answered all my questions completely and quickly.  And after I made a mistake in my order he went above and beyond and was kind enough to depart from his usual policy and ship me out the correct item, before he received the return from me so I can have it to install over the long weekend.  He also promptly refunded me the price difference, another departure from his store credit only policy.

Both installs went quick and smoothly and the items work and intended.

I have no affiliation with the company but I highly recommend this to anyone who has a radar detector.  If you get one, be sure you mention where you heard it from.

Cheers,
Keith

Yeah, if your cruzin around town, no real need for an RD, but definitely worth it if you travel on the highways.

Okay...this is just my opinion and my experience.  Speed doesn't kill, the difference in speed kills...On a short highway trip you may save 2 minutes, on an all day drive, you may save a whopping 30 minutes.  The risk is killing and/or maiming a loving father/mother and/or entire family.

Besides, with today's instant-on radar and laser, you're pretty defenseless no matter what you have.  What you do driving effects so many other people than yourself....and with today's laws, you are always subject to vehicular homicide charges if you are known to have been speeding at the time of the accident.

If you think you won't have an accident (cause everybody knows they are greatest drivers in the world - including me) you can save a lot of money by canceling your insurance!

Not an indictment...just an opinion!

I agree 100% that it’s the difference in speed that’s the problem.  Someone going unusually slow, especially not in the right lane on a highway is also a concern.  Also drivers who are unaware of their surroundings are a big problem.

There is virtually no use for a laser detector because as soon as the beam of light hits you your speed is registered.  The laser beam is very narrow so it is quite precise.  Radar is a wider beam and bounces off other objects.  Even if an officer is using constant on, if your RD is good, you can pick up the signal well in advance of you approaching him as he “shoots” drivers ahead of you.

I’m not going to say 100% of the time I drive at or under the limit.  I drive mostly on the highway and my experience reflects that the flow of traffic is usually higher than the posted speed.  My reason to use a RD is not to speed, but to be aware of where the police are and to be sure I’m within the limit when they are out ticketing.  Also, drivers tend to slow down when they see police cars so if the police are running radar, I can be alerted ahead of time to a potential situation ahead of me and be prepared to slow down.

If one has made the choice to own one, I recommend he or she buy the direct wire connection as I did.

I do not condone unsafe driving.  Especially now when the weather gets bad in certain parts of the country people need to drive safe and pay attention.
