I'm very pleased with the effects: 100% real also. Was out to fish with my Alutecnos this weekend but got nothing. You was right last time: It's a 50 lb/22.6 Kg drag reel. Nice picture Jeff! Seems like a good reel. I use 200 lbs braided spectra line on mine. My rod is a 80-130 lbs. I love this reel: The handle is really good. I'm after some big halibut. They can come to near 400kg in most extreme cases but I would like a 100-200kg at list... They all been caught in waters around where I live. It's a very strong fish who's hard to take out so that's why I've opted for big game equipments and bought that last summer. But I had it late and the season was off... Until now, I've never had over 20kg fish but my day will come: I'm ready for the fight  |

Thanks for the kind words, William. Halibut are good game and really put up a good fight. I use tobacco sinkers in a series for better presentation and most usually, for game like halibut, use bimini knots....virtually "inescapable". Never been lucky on this smart fish  .I'll look for my old pix and show you a record NZ snapper, about 25 kg caught with simple line but with a 15kg Penn lever drag, double action. My rods are all Penn, 6-footers, for medium action and lots of fun. My fighting belt is Braid. Oooopppsss, we might be off topic amigo . Happy Fishing, Bro! I dobbel my down line inside another bigger braided(200 lbs also) line, on one meter long. Tight them with a classic grand-Ma knot each sides and use Berkley Trilene knot on the stainless steel shackle. This technic of dobbel line takes the breaking point 30% higher(says some experts...) But is usualy used with a nylon mono inside the 1 meter braid sleeve. On the shackle, a sprit ring 290 lbs then an Ausssi swivel 900 lbs. My rigs are in 2mm / 1 meter Stain.Steel wire down to the huge lure and the hooks: All aluminium double barrel crimped... Why steel wire? Because the fish who bury itself in sharp corals, back rocks, can break/cut the usual nylon mono. Also, the teeth on Seawolfs and huge halibuts are serious business. The Berkley knot is simple and hold my weight in the air: 100kg. So it hold enough for my fish who's weight is less in it's proportion inside the water... It's also a knot who's very easy to take off after using. Back to the watch! I see often your Sub Hatch lately: That's a love story that! Hehehe. Ok, amigo. The Sub Hatch is really a cool one. It's the bezel that does it for me and although it's only a 42mm watch, it wears bigger on the wrist. Accuracy is decent but lume leaves lots to be desired. I sleep with 2 watches all the time. It's more fun and nice to look at 2 different lumes nightly. Show me pix when you catch something, ok? |

It's very well made in limited to 1888 pieces, after a model from the 70's used by the US Navy and Nasa for an expedition on a coral reef. We could say that the crown could have been bigger and the hands larger with more lume. The bezel it great and got a very tight ratchet. But I never had any trouble with the crown and my big hands. The hands are still serving very well and lume correctly after 6 years I paid 800$ for it, new offcourse: Right in a Norwegian watch shop. Now they sell for 1200$ at list on the Bay. But a question on your technique. I am assuming to get the soft effect on the water you had a slightly long exposure, but how did you manage to have the seconds hand from not blurring? You clearly have your crown pushed in, so did you take the battery out? |

I used an old digital camera: Pocket model from 2003. I always had great shots with it. This watch is automatic: Housing a 2824-2. The watch was running when I took the pictures. You can observe that the shots was taken at different time laps: I use like 10 minutes to do them all and did choose the bests after. There's no effects what so ever on those pictures: Made them in my stream close to my cabin during summer time. |
