Here are some pictures of the home-cooked straps I've been making for myself:

Very impressive work, Timesofplenty. The craftmanship is superb and so clean. Did you use linen? Or nylon stitches?

Your photos are so well taken. ThumbsUp02.gif Professional-grade.

Thank you! I'm using nylon thread, but have some linen to try next.

Here's one I just finished:

This has been a really rewarding experience, I'm digging it.

Way cool!!! But if I may challenge your talentsubtlelaugh.gif, could you make a Flieger strap in the spirit of the 1942-1944 original? Lacos in A and B dials were known for those straps back then.

If you can execute one, as true to the original (really complicated, amigo), then I'd say your talent can turn into a small business on the sideThumbsUp02.gif.

I wanted you to enjoy the thrill of the hunt, amigo, but to save you time and so we are on the same page, here is a link that you might like:

By the way, some of the real originals on the Durowe movement had a military green canvass lining at the back of the strap where leather meets skin.

Good Luck!

Wishing you success. The closed strap is not easy to do, tricky, and not easy. Good Luck and keep me posted.ThumbsUp02.gif

Here's one I cooked up today. Olive drab, 4mm thick, from an Italian military belt:

Very nice color for a strap. Did you apply some mink oil on it to keep it more water-resistant? What do you use for the purpose.

I'll share a small story with you since you're into straps. Here's an old carpenter's belt I bought in Mexico decades ago that I accidentally found lying around the garage a couple of months back. I liked the old, ageing leather which showed some personality with its scratches and swirls. It also had some sentimental value because that was the belt I used when I taught my 2 sons some carpentry work when they were little.

Here are some more photos.

So off to my favorite strapmaker it went. The belt came back to me in Auckland 2 weeks later. Here are the 2 straps it got converted into:

And here's a small detail I liked about the strap.

And here is another shot.

Now, I'm going after vintage Wilson or Rawling's baseball gloves from the '50s. Hard to find a shortstop's mitts but that's what I'm hunting down. I used to play shortstop when I was a teen.

Hope you like this little storysubtlelaugh.gif
