Let me say that I'm blown away by the craftsmanship of this watch. I've spent the last year learning an awful lot about watches and I can honestly say that dollar for dollar, this is the best value I can imagine being out there. I am a relative novice to watch collecting. Over 20 years ago I bought myself a victorinox swiss army officers watch with rotating divers bezel. I was still in high school, and bought it with some paper route money. While many watches have come and gone, that one still sits in my drawer. It was sort of a right of passage for me, a feeling that I was entering some advanced stage of manhood. I still have that one and I hope to pass it along to someone special down the road. I feel the same way about this watch. Time will tell if it means the same to me or not, but I can't help but feel it will. This is my first automatic diver. When I caught the bug a year or so ago, I was enamored by the Tag Heuer Aquaracer 500M series. To think that I considered dropping over 2 grand on it baffles me today. After some research, I learned about the world of micro brand watch companies. Reading all of your posts truly helped me understand the quality and value that these lesser known brands offer. My experience with Steve and Benarus has been top notch. Steve always got back to me promptly, even when I backed out of my Remora purchase to get my Moray 2. When I opened that box last Friday, I had the same experience as when I bought my first car. I swear time stopped still for a few moments as I took it all in. From every angle and every light condition, this watch rocks. I've realized I'm hooked. Some quick observations: The weight is substantial. Not just the "heaviness" weight, but the "this is something of tremendous quality" weight. Everything about it screams "$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$." The leather strap is equally amazing. Though bulky, it suits the watch perfectly. I love the dark brown option I chose. Adds just the right touch of class and sophistication to the black face. The rubber option isn't bad either, although I'm having a problem with the tubes. The band seems to not be a true 24 mm wide, and therefore the ends of the tubes stick out the ends. I'm wondering if anything can be done about this. If you know, I'll take any advice. The bezel is a little tight, but I'm guessing that with time and turning, it will loosen just enough. I'm still learning the ins and outs of auto's. I'm baffled by the whoe date setting thing, a little nervous about destroying the movement. But a little more reading and I'm confident I'll figure it out. So all in all, I'm tremendously happy. I'm looking forward to years of wearing this beauty. I'm also looking forward to Steve and Ralph's next creations. For me, I'm hoping they go smaller with the newer models. 44mm is about all my puny 7" wrist can handle. Hopefully the next Remora dial options will do it for me, as it is 42 mm. I'm also thinking about a Steinhart Ocean 1 or Kemmner Octopus. Heres to Benarus, and all of you at 3T. Thanks for a great experience. Last edited on Sun Jan 23rd, 2011 03:07 pm by flipper |

Nice post. This is the first post I have seen of the Moray 2 with a black dial. The black dial looks great. I didn't get in on the pre- order for the Moray 2. I have a Moray 1 that I love.

I am coming round to your way of thinking. The micro brands offer far better value for money than the established well known brands and far less chance of seeing somebody else wearing the same brand on a day to day basis. plus you get to own a few watches as opposed to just one for the same $$. the choice right now seems to be very good.

Said it once Ill say it again...Benarus are the nucks duts. I still groan and heave when I look at mine. 100% for sure you are going to get some envious guy comments. When I tell dudes mine is one of 100 and they are not available.....lets just say I have had some silly offers for mine..

Grider, I honestly think that Moray combo you have is the absolute pick of the bunch for a bold but classic understatement. It is just a perfect watch IMHO. ONce you start getting the leather straps on it....*groan*. Although I have a few Greg Stevens NATOs as well for sporty days. I will definitely be buying myself another BENARUS at some stage in the future. I actually want to by my boss one too as whilst he is not a WIS I can see he has taste. He has a really nice Tissot and a couple of other mid-sized steel watches but I think if I layed a BENARUS on him he would love it....
