New straps 2/14/11:

Made this one for myself.  I waxed the edges instead of edge-coating them black; I think it works well with the lighter leather on this particular strap.  This leather has a nice oily wrinkled texture that doesn't really come through in the pics too well.

The soon-to-be new owner of this strap wanted something light taupe color.  I had a tough time finding leather this light that was suitable for a watchstrap, but eventually was able to track some down.  (Hope he likes it -- fingers crossed!)

I like the taupe version the best. It's not a common color and it's executed superbly. Kudos!

Thanks.  I discovered while making that one that black edge-coat is a PITA to do with light leathers -- especially ones with a little nap/fuzz to them.  I had to chuck half of that strap in the garbage and start over when I slipped with the Q-tip and smeared edge coat on the face of the strap.  With oiled leathers it just wipes off, but not in this case...

But it's all a learning experience, and fun!

Black edge on light leather, IMHO, is simply the way to go. I think it also keeps some of the natural oils sealed in giving the strap extra life and suppleness. I've seen a taupe strap with a red orange edge and it look cool. Your straps are well-made!

Yes those buckles are without a doubt my favorite . I bought a 22mm one from the website a year ago and I really think they should be the default buckle of choice for boutique watchmakers over and above the Pre v " ice scraper "

they look great Dan.... Going to my post office box this afternoon, after work to pick mine up... Still waiting for the watch to come back, can't wait to pair them up..

I like the look of your black with grey stitching. Could be one I will get for my Orsa when it comes back.

Yes so do I . My Moray is now sporting # 2 above - a square-ended whiskey strap with that incredibly stylish square buckle. It is just incredible. The leather smells like a high end wallet. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Funny, Justin -- I would have called that color caramel.  Leave it to the Aussies to connect everything with alcohol...

Caramel is a tad lighter.

Can you please find some Mocca Chocca Latte for the next one...or alternatively....lager coloured.
