Well...this very economical, but well built Seiko SNZH53 arrived a few days ago.  It was a bit of an impulse buy and I must give 3T's 'exc-hulk' much of the credit for enabling me into this one...his incredible pics pushed me over the edge!!! - Thanks exc-hulk!!!thumbsup.gif

Ended up finding a seller on Amazon selling these for $120 shipped to my door, and I could not resist checking this one out (they sold out very fast at that price, but it looks like you can still find these reasonably priced from a number of sellers).

Pros - Well, the price is right...Seiko builds a heck of a watch for not alot of money.  I really don't know where else you can get an automatic movement (in-house no less happy1.gif) with this kind of build quality, for this amount of money.  Right out of the gate, I love the nicely domed vintage style Hardlex crystal (this is Seiko's proprietary hardened mineral crystal), and the Hardlex insert bezel which gives this piece a very cool vintage look and vibe.  For you guys that like big watches with lots of wrist presence, this is not that watch, but it does measure 42mm across the bezel including the bezel teeth, so it is nicely sized for the vintage style that this watch is providing IMO.  Bezel operates very smoothly and has that oh-so-nice Seiko bezel feel that those familar with Seiko pieces will recognize right away.

Cons - Now, remember how much these cost so there's not much to complain about.  Yes, I wish it had at least a 200m water resistance rating (instead it's rated at 100m and unfortunately the crown is push-pull only and not screw-down)...bummer, but I can live with it.  The 100m rating seems to be the standard for all the 'Seiko 5 Sports' category pieces.  Also, no Solid End Links on the stock ss bracelet, but the folded ones that come on this one really fit the case nicely with very little gap.

There are several color variants available in the SNZH lineup, including a black & gold model with a really nice vintage vibe, and also some variants with black case treatment.

The stock ss bracelet is just ok like I said (no SEL's) with push button deployment like you see on Seiko's lower end pieces.  I would like to try this one on a nice vintage mesh like exc-hulk has posted on his (that's a great looking combo)...I have mine on a Nato right now (see pics below), and I really like the combo and feel like it goes nicely with the vintage vibe of this one.

Overall...a great piece and super value IMO.  thumbsup.gif

A few pics:

I really like this one on the Nato...

A shot with a reflection of the sky showing that nice Hardlex crystal and bezel insert.

Hey Chris !

Congrats to your SEIKO Vintage Newbie ! ThumbsUp02.gif

This is really a Super-Value-Watch.
Well made case finish and superb bezel and dial.

A bit larger can be the watch (44mm). But it is ok.

Your blue/grey NATO-Strap looks amazing on this watch. Thumbsup3.gif
Where can I buy this strap ?

Enjoy your new timepiece !

Greetings ThumbsUp02.gif

Tony, Skip, exc-hulk, and mrneddles...Thanks guys!  thankyou.gif

It's a no-brainer value and a great looking vintage piece indeed.

Tony - yes, I love the hand set on these too...forgot to mention that...

ex-hulk -  I love yours on that nice vintage mesh!!!thumbsup.gif...I've got to order up a mesh or two like that.  You can pick up this Blue Bond Nato G10 at gnomon watches:

http://www.gnomonwatches.com/Product-view.asp?id=20

They have a fantastic selection of Nato and Zulu straps in Polished, Matte, and PVD Hardware versions.  This Blue Nato also serves double duty on a blue dialed Halios Bluering at times.  I ordered the polished hardware version and then gave the hardware a quick brush myself, although leaving it polished would look great on the Seiko too.

Don't forget the nice big crown! A lot of the Seiko 5's have rather puny crowns.

GREAT WATCH!!!bravo.gif The mesh bracelet and the Blue/Grey Nato straps are PERFECT!!! Congrats!!! I have the black SNHZ55J1 with the mesh too! I think it would also be nice to put on a Nylon fiber strap on this watch and would look like the BP FF. cool.gif

Big Congrats, Chris. I know your WIS itchiness can really be mesmerized by this beauty.

I agree with all your comments and really, had it been on a 44 case, it would be taken home.

Try a solid blue zulu, too. The look of seriousness will surely be enhanced.

Enjoy it amigo!
