I am really liking this watch. Those that have it, care to post a review/your thoughts having lived with it a few days now?

Does anyone know what grade the ETA movement is? I don't see that information on their website.

I've been wearing this one pretty much exclusively since incoming June 30. Looks to be ~ -5sec/day, I don't know the grade of the mvt.
I'm still just as pleased with the watch as when it arrived, although after the first 5 days there was a small issue:
The edges of the case are fairly sharp, causing raw spot on my wrist bone. I took one of my favorite tools: a 4-sided nail files to the edges, problem solved.
I suspect my ~6.75" wrist has something to do with it...probly not noticed with a bigger wrist, but the edges are sharp.
IMO this watch is a winner: it keeps it simple; modern, but capturing the vintage vibe, the spirit of
the "off-brand" black-dial divers of the 60s and 70s that some of us dig: utility watches with ETA & AS mvts, all-stainless cases, (more than likely produced in Hong Kong) & don't cost a bunch...watches advertised in the backs of skindiver/scuba mags....sharpen your pencil and circle the one(s) you want :)
That's what I think of when I look at the A1, and I like it ThumbsUp02.gif

And what good's a post without pics?

Thanks for the notes on the watch. My wrist is not much bigger about 7" so the sharp edge comment is helpful.

I like the watch for all the reasons you said. The more I look at it, especially your great pics, the more it grows on me. I am thinking I might have to pull the trigger on one soon.

Enjoy your weekend.

Cheers,
Spencer

Hi all!

I am a proud new owner of #82 A1 ETA Super dome.

I liked a more polished surface so I had my brush SS finish buffed to a nice mirror finish.

Congratulations! Great watch, isn't it? ThumbsUp02.gif
The polished finish is an interesting take on it; sort of reminds me of a Squale.
Did you polish the back, too?

I love the Armida case polished. I think it amps up the watch.... A no nonsense tool diver made dressy enough to wear out.

I did not polish the back but it's very easy to do. Buy some green jewelry clay. Use a new felt wheel on your dremel and bingo. Took 10 min. to do. Highly recommend it.

btw mine a1 eta is incredible accurate. It makes just 1 sec a day... both on the wrist or on the winder...

It runs just a month, so maybe it will be different in the future, but now it is my most accurate watch (and I have rolex and breitling)

I wear mine on different solid rubber strap, but considering mesh. A1 has short lugs, what is IMHO great benefit, the body is as big as regular 42mm watch.

And short lugs need huge strap, original one (proploof style) is too narrow and not massy :)

is the rubber strap (with watch) wearable or is the consensus to change to isofrane?

It's wearable but I dont like it. The looks as it narrows down but also I find it too soft and stretchy for the massive top heavy watch.
I have a NBR from Bali Hai on mine and it works great. A real Isofrane would rock for sure.

I prefer to wear mine A1 on the OEM-Rubber.

The zulu looks good but the rubber looks much better !

I still have not found another band that would fit.

And leather I don't like.

I have one greatest rubber strap, its OEM breitling diver pro IIm 24/20, but I have it on my enzo subhatch.

I have also ocean7 pro ploof style silicon strap, which is much much softer and elastic and thinner than original armida strap, but as I know it is very popular... but IMO it is good for light watch only.

Currently I have it on noname massive rubber 24/24 strap with depl buckle.

I was thinking about mesh bracelet, I never ever have one.

And finally, maybe vintage 24/24 panerai like leather strap should be the best... in the winter...but now is summer time :)

guys, what about accuracy? My a1 is only +1sec daily, amazing... better than my cosc breitling and rolex.

what is your serial number?

How thick is it? May be tight. I prefer something simple on the A1 personally.

Thanks Jeep99dad,

Just getting used to the size..feels a little small, but that's only because I'm used to wearing my U-Boat FlightDeck 50mm with Valjoux 7750 (which I absolutely love).

But I love the simple, classic elegant lines of the Armida and the retro feel of it..reminds me of simple classic divers from the 70's....and the super dome is just nuts..as is the lume.

I will likely replace the rubber strap for something beefier...probably a black Italian NBR vanilla scented rubber or just plain black rubber with deployment clasp..something that doesn't taper...make it look a little bigger on the wrist.

But I am definitely enjoying this and adding it to my small but interesting collection.

Glad you are enjoying it. I like mine too. I have it on a NBR rubber and it works much better than the stock strap. A real Isofrane would be great too but all mine are 22's :)

My new Armida A1 ETC 2824-2 is due Monday, but I have a question.

This is my first dive watch with C3 on the bezel; how is the C3 protected from friction? Do they use a clear coat over the bezel or is the C3 protected by another way?

Hi Sidecross...as far as I can tell..there is no clear coating over the bezel..but i could be wrong on the C3 superluminova ..hard to tell..but I don't think there is. I have been careful with my superdome since it is easy to brush up against doorways and the like....but I have been extremely happy with my A1 since my purchase in September.

Thank you for the reply; I will take that extra care as you mentioned.

The 'superdome' will probably need that kind of attention.

agree with Mellons 100%

Yes! The superdome rocks! And it's not that weak...

Mine bangs on the door for several times! the crystal is definitely flawless!

And it takes some duty as a "guard" protecting the bezel!

Thank you too for your observation; I agree the 'superdome' will help keep the bezel from abrasion.

It would seem to me that the Armida A1 ETA 2824-2 is placed on a timing machine to be checked out before shipment.

My new A1 ETA 2824-2 lost two seconds in 22 hours.

This is outstanding performance from the Armida production facility.

no need worry about a1 superdome crystal... its sapphire... almost impossible to scratch... doorways are no problem at all...

but bezel (metal and nonmetal parts) is easy to scratch indeed.

I have come to the conclusion that scratches to the bezel of the Armida A1 are just the scars of service.

I will be careful in knowing that the bezel has no protection, but if it gets dinged up in use I can accept it without a problem.

And here is my Armida A1 when I had it still on the Armida ISOfrane like strap. Also nice but despite the strap thickness this strap is less stabil on the wrist:

Please show pics with your watchadoo.

I prefer the ZULU. This is the perfect choice for me.
It looks stunning and the watch has a perfect balance on the wrist.

Hi Mellons,

I also had my doubts about the A1 on a Watchadoo, but seeing your pics also made me think otherwise :)

And do you really prefer the Watchadoo over the Artego bracelet? Do you think it's too chunky on the Artego?

What do you think of the A1 on a Super Engineer from Strapcode? Eric has posted a pic in his thread with pics 9 straps on his A1. If I'm not mistaken, the Watchadoo and the Super Engineer are very similar, only difference I think is that the Watchadoo tapers down to 22 mm, and the Super Engineer doesn't (24/24).

I'd like to hear your opinion!

All the best,
Pat

the better balance was the artego on the a1- the watchadoo looked great but was a bit top heavy (or at least that was my impression)

i would say possible that the non-tapering strapcode would be the one to go for: the artego is not available. strapcode do a quote nice "flattened" one at moment and have not seen this on any a1's to date....

I was turned onto the Armida A1 by a long distance watch collecting friend. This is my first post here and also my first A1. The A1 is a beast of a watch and by far my favorite watch at least until the next one arrives. Thanks for looking, Charlie

Great to be here...I was debating on a Brass/Bronze watch for a number of weeks. Reading reviews, etc. I decided that, for me, Bronze was really more of a trendy, and more expensive, way to go for essentially the same look and metallurgic properties. As far as the A1 "watch" itself goes, it is a stand out in quality/workmanship/price point...and the the perfect size for me.
