RichardWilkinsIII wrote: Here's the link again. The real world explanation as to why Macs are better, dollars and cents wise, than peecees. I read the article, however, there are several flaws in it, the main one being..........who is this guy and what are his credentials??? As far as I know, it could have been written by Steve Jobs. That said, my debate is not whether or not MAC is technologically better than PC.....it is what is better in the world of business, especially from an educational standpoint for those entering and having to compete in that world. The truth is that PC and the Windows operating system so dominates that universe that it is, in fact, the de facto standard around which, the world revolve. Yes, there are niche area of MAC and PCs with LINUX and there are UNIX based machines, but never has an OS been able to successfully usurp Microsoft, not even the full power of IBM,in Microsoft's infancy, could redirect users to something else. Bottom line, to compete in today's world, as it currently exists and has for a decade or more, as a rule, one must learn to live with PC/Windows.........and that makes it better. Whether or not it is superior is an academic debate as was BETA vs VHS.

You make a good point Ken. I have no idea who the guy who wrote that article is working for. I think alot of the facts that he cites are probably verifiable. If you look at alot of "reputable" publications, I think you'll find that most of them are saying that the debate is over. The Mac is the better machine and will continue to kick Microsofts butt when it comes to operating systems. The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and PC World are a few of the places where I've read this. I think there was a time when you could say that those entering the business world needed to know how to operate a windows OS. But, I think what is important to know now, is that the windows operating system has been evolving (with every delayed release) to mimic the Mac OS. With Macs now shipping with Intel chips as a standard, and the ability to run Windows natively on a Mac, the lines become very blurred. I don't think anyone will be able to say that there is software that they need, that they can't get on a mac. Honeslty, I think that there will be a bunch of people who will try the Mac OS, realise how hassle free it is and switch. But, to echo one of your points Ken, this is a debate that will never come to an end. It's kind of like the diehard Chevy guy who will never, ever buy a Ford. It's just fun to debate every once in a while.

It's just fun to debate every once in a while. I think you will find that when people start mounting the Windows OS on their MACs, that MAC will lose its "hassle-free" rep, because, after all, it is the OS that is attacked by hackers, virus "evil-doers" and spyware.............not the hardware. An MS OS will be vulnerable no matter wahere it is mounted simply because of its dominance. And, you are absolutley right that BG is mimicking the MAC OS with Windows......he didn't fall off a turnip truck. Take a look at the new IE7....I think you'll find it looks remarkably like Firefox (without all of the plug-ins). Fortunately or unfortunately, this is what Microsoft does best.............it dominates the sofware world whether by in-house design, take-over or pushover..............not approving or disapproving, just stating the facts. Remeber when Word Perfect (not MS WORD) dominated the word processing world? And Lotus, not Excel, dominated spreadsheet software.....and, of course, nobody ever heard of Access, 'cause it was all about dBase. You may not like Billy, but he has done more than anyone to revolutionize personal and business computing (and IBM thought it was just a fad - LMAO!).
