New version of the Poseidon 3500m.

Love the lume. Looks really awesome.

And the OceanicTime Special Edition.

Like the unique look very much.
Great black TUNA hands and awesome silver dial.

But the price !

I think the price is not justified. It's the same watch only with other design.

I think there are a few with own inspired design in the line up from Prometheus.

For example

> Ocean Diver
> Jelly Fish
> Piranha
> Manta Ray

90% of the micro brands are watches with homage design elements.

And everyone copied everyone! The big player too....

Regarding the Poseidon...I don't think there is any question on the inspiration coming from the excellent IWC Aquatimer, but at the same time the Poseidon offers some very significant value for the dollar IMO. It is a well built watch and I enjoy mine a lot. (the IWC Aquatimer continues to be on my wish list)

Regarding the Prometheus brand specifically, I've got to agree with Phil on this one...they have a number of Prometheus specific designs in the lineup along with designs inspired by or homages to some legendary great ones from the big brands. This seems to be the case for the majority of micros.

To say "no imagination" and "just copies" seems to be a bit harsh, but to each his own. peace.gif

Phil, take some time to research these models you call "own inspired designs" and you will find which watches were used for these inspired designs...cues taken not only from major brands, but from other micro brands as well...the entire state of micro brand production has become nothing more than pieces parts from each other (most using the same HK companies to make the designs)...as of today there are over 46 new micros on kickstarter...anyone who has the initiative to want to be in the watch business can today,at little to no cost to them and influence us with price points that are inviting.

Please show me these specific designs that are truly unique only to Prometheus?...this new Poseidon is nothing more than a re-branded replica imho.

The Ocean Diver (available as a 3-hander, GMT, and the Chrono version) would be the first one that comes to mind as unique.

(maybe you are saying this is a catalog case, which would be unknown to me?)

yes, catalog case and in its 1st form with the dual crown was a vintage IWC Aquatimer homage...or any of the dozen or so compressor cased watches of the 70's...later on was a design contest watch(the chrono version)...
for the most part all of the micros as Phil said have copied from some other brand and do nothing more than shift parts from a catalog from one design to the next... please don't get me started on the sister brand of Prometheus,Borealis, this brand is cheap from the get go...sharp edges on any watch brand turn me off... if you can't have at least a decent fit and finish than why bother...maybe revisiting this thread will open some eyes...

Well, I don't get your point Oscar. You say this is simply a catalog case, and note that a compressor style case is simply copying a bunch of vintage compressors from the 70's. Come on, one can still have something unique while following the basic compressor form.

I'm familiar with a number of catalog cases being used across the landscape, but I would say this is a case I haven't seen anywhere else. If this is a catalog case, I don't see any evidence of that.

I cannot comment on Borealis (did not know it was a sister brand, mainly because the designs don't appeal to me enough to learn anything about the brand). I do, however, have a few of their 22mm vulcanized rubber straps, and at $15 bucks a pop, they are a screaming deal IMO.

I skimmed your link on the OD...someone I don't know took the time to write this nicely detailed and long review, and despite a few minor niggles, he summarizes by saying he really likes his OD chronograph.

I only have 2 Prometheus watches, the Sailfish and Poseidon, and based on my experience with watches at a number of price points from micro to big brand, I still say that BOTH of these offer incredible bang for the buck. Fit/finish is great on both which, of course, is just my opinion...but I'm just sayin'.

catalog case Chris, brought to my attention by another well respected micro brand owner, nuff said I hope, but think about it,a brand that you believe started out with a unique design all his own,who now builds an almost exact copy of a IWC Aquatimer?,,,, ....if you read the entire thread about the faulty OD Rolf received you will see that it took 5 mos for him to be satisfied by Carlos and it was only because of the forum pressure that he was satisfied at all...especially read what KenC wrote in that thread...most of you guys were not even around when these micros 1st came around and because they were paying Ernie on WUS they were protected and any ill type posts were removed by the admins...you guys also believe that Zixen or Zinex, whatever the brand is called now led his customers to believe he had to change his name because it sounded like Rolex...BS,it was a patented name infringement filed by Zinex Corp.... and it appears none of you were around,or refuse to remember when Joe/Zixen was showing off his new blueprints of his new design on WUS way back when he 1st started...only thing,it wasn't his,it was Pouls, owner of Korsbek and Poul went nuts over it,unfortunately another thread gone from WUS...Joe apologized, but Poul remains upset even today

I myself have pretty much had it and sometimes knowing too much is a hindrance when it comes to this hobby which is filled with secrets much as it was years ago and those lucky enough to know have become a bit of a endangered species having to meet in private fora in order to discuss the reality of what has become forums filled with experts who have only the knowledge that is fed to them through BS sales tactics, by the way too many micro marketeers, most of which have little to no watch experience upon contracting a Chinese manufacturer to tell them how to build a watch and when someone who has inside knowledge comes along to share some insight they are booed away...one of these days I hope all watch enthusiasts realize this, but if you continue to hang at WUS and whatever new forums spawn off of there, with the same uninformed WIS feeding you the same BS, I can't believe it will happen.

no apologies needed Chris...I did not aim my reply at you or anyone in general, but to all who may read this...all I have to say is research your purchases and buy the seller as much as the product...recently Seiko released the new Turtle and imho is twice the value of a Prometheus at twice the price and many other micros who do not tell the truth...simply put, "Swiss Made" on the Ocean Diver, really? and this was all brought on by me seeing this new Poseidon,or should I say the old Aquatimer...even the lume was copied! ...I have been mild in my thoughts on this new model, you should hear what the purists are saying! dog smile.gif

"Purists" eh...you say that like it's a good thing. Who are these purists and why should I care what they are saying? I guess if we want to talk about "purists", I have seen a persistent group of "purists" (snobs?, nitpickers?, curmudgeons?...maybe, but who am I to say), that have a problem with the IWC brand itself. I guess it all depends on how far you want to take your "purist" notions . These "purists" refer to the Aquatimer line from IWC as a distraction of the brand often referring to the styling as cartoonish and nothing more than a gussied up fashion watch. These "purists" point to IWC as a brand that has lost its traditional design virtues to pursue sales from the uneducated masses that flock to the next shiny object. Hmmm...really?

Do I agree with these purists?...eh hem...well no, as I've always appreciated the Aquatimer line from it's early vintage compressor design, to the excellent 3536, to the more recent Aquatimer lineup.

I certainly enjoy excellence in design, including design cohesiveness with excellent fit/finish and quality materials. Am I so rigid that I also don't appreciate a bit of design diversity within a brand? Nope. I also appreciate the heritage of the established big brands, and the nimbleness of the micros that build quality timepieces.

I guess I simply can't hang with these purist, elitist snobs...their absolute adherence to traditional structure and design may be just a bit too rigid for me, as I do believe there is room in this hobby for both tradition and classic designs, but also diversity in design that brings fun into the hobby as well...but what do I know? dog smile.gif To each his own.

I guess I simply can't hang with these purist, elitist snobs...their absolute adherence to traditional structure and design may be just a bit too rigid for me, as I do believe there is room in this hobby for both tradition and classic designs, but also diversity in design that brings fun into the hobby as well...but what do I know? dog smile.gif To each his own.

if you noticed I too snickered at what the purists are saying...have not seen any negativity about the Aquatimer though...so I guess you feel this new Poseidon design is just another unique addition to the Prometheus folly of imaginative designs all their own.subtlelaugh.gif

Most of the negativity I've seen has been on IWC specific forums. Like I said, I've always had a thing for the Aquatimer, in many versions, and it continues to be on my wish list. Never a question in my mind where the inspiration for the Poseidon came from. The resemblance to the Aquatimer is why I bought one in the first place (and remember, at preorder pricing the Gen1 watch was 400Euro or ~$435). The build on these is actually quite good considering the price...the sapphire bezel is extremely well done. Imaginative design, NO...bang-for-the-buck, YES...which is why I went for it.

While tempted by the new offering in black/yellow and blue/yellow, I have not ordered another one in the new color scheme.

Pics of my Blue/White though, which I've had for a while.

Sorry guys,

I not wanted to cause any strenuous debate.

...or a fundamental discussion about Micro Brands.

Everyone should buy and wear what he enjoys.

I wanted to present only news.

My English is too poor to have a say around here.

So I am out !

Aw man I totally missed this thread, now it's just inappropriately late to add anything sensational to it...
