you guys ever deal with tech support at both companies? its like dealing with babies. I buy a high end hp laptop with a xp os. load all of my software in from my other laptop, again a hp same os. 2 of my programs don't work. 1 won't even load. Autodesk inventor won't load but autocad does. my music editor dies on startup. Since I have some programming skills, I spent 2 weeks tracing the glitch. it ends up being a system32/.scr/space.file. other words a damn screen saver fails to load and generates a error report to microsoft. Bad os,BAD!hp won't fix because its a os issue, and microsoft blames hp for a bad install. So now what? use the warranty and send this back to hp or push the issue with microsoft on sending me the os? After loading in 30gigs of programs, wiping the system would really suck. does anybody here know where to pull a .scr file from? I don't undrstand how 1 bad string in the registry is killing 2 unrelated programs unless there conected with the open gl or nvidia 3dnow graphics. Anybody here know about this?

What OS are you using?  If it is XP (home or pro), I can send you a disk, but I am surprised you did not get OS and drivers disks with the system.

hp used to have the best customer svc in the industry, but now they are like all of the others..............and MS simply has no knowledege of how to interface with end-users.  Actually, since hp loaded the OS, they are the responsible party, unless it is a problem inherent in every XP OS disk!

Last year hp sent a os disk and a driver and program disk. this time they partitioned the hd, put the os on d:drive. I burned the backup dvds when I got it.But since the screensaver is corrupt from the factory, theres nothing I can do. The os is media center. It will take xp pro, but I don't have a valid copy of it. I burned a copy of all the driver for pro. So if I had the disk I could do a upgrade install without losing the installed software. the laptop has a amd turion dual core64 bit processor, 2 gigs of ram and a nvidia 256meg dedicated video card. backside bus is 533. frontside is 2000.

I will attempt to help but I hate doing this from a distance.

1. go to control panel, display tab , look for screensaver tab deacvtivate screen saver.

2. go to this site and down load Registry mechanic,

  http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/download/

install and run program, click on scan your registry tab, whatever the result click fix it. let see what happens this is just a start.  :D

I have my own version of the program, ran it and found alot of invalid entries, copied them to notepad and went through all of them in regedit. no problems found. I copied the space.scr file to my documents and looked at it to get the version. It was a bit more complecated to turn it off. It had to be uninstalled then reinstalled. The file is 8 megs. If someone here is running media center, copy and email me the file. I ordered the os disk and the driver and app. disk from hp to see if that would fix it. I figured with my experiance with the xp platform this would be easy, but apparently I'm off base here. I know its a small problem, that I should not use that screen saver, but there are other programs that aren't installing because of it. Mainly Adobe auditition and inventor. Its hard to do 3D cad without  the program from my house. I have to use autocad 2006, it takes alot longer to go from the drawing board to sending finished plans.
