Was wondering if anyone else had noticed that the Hirsch Liberty straps (or any other strap for that matter) can vary in width by up to 1 mm? I have a 20mm brown strap that when fitted to 20mm lugs, has a gap of almost 1mm, allowing some of the spring bar to show (ok, I may be a little anal about that, but I hate it when that happens). This pic shows what I mean - the strap was marked as 20mm:  I have noticed it on one of my 24mm straps too - but for that one I was able to 'massage' the leather out a little to spread it and fill the gap. I have noticed differences in only that some watches lug widths are 19mm and 21mm and not a true 20mm:? ....my old Archimedes was 21mm and a 22mm strap fit nicelyhand6.gif I use a digi-caliper to measure all widths now before ordering...I have found most of the German manufacturers use the odd size lugs..19,21,23mm..which straps are not readily availablewatch2.gif

Somewhat the same deal here. I have a dress SJ watch that is supposed to be a 20mm at the lugs. I can put most of my 22mm straps on it just fine. Again, I said most. The 20mm on this watch look like your picture. With a 22mm it look perfect. My guess is, it's most likely a euro type 21mm at the lugs.

I actually prefer the 'shell cordovan" straps from IWI to the Hirsch Liberty straps. They are slightly thinner so that with a little effort you can mount a deployant, plus they are of consistant quality. Unfortunately, Ron's service tends to suck!

I noticed that everyone that has commented here has commented on Leather/natural straps and their variability. I've noticed the same thing with the leather straps that I have that are not as completely cured and finished in waxes and other coatings. One that accidentally sat on a desiccant bag (it was accidentally left in a box and slid under the strap when moved to store the box) for a week shriveled up almost 3mm. Time, atmosphere, humidity, and other factors can play havoc with natural substances like skins - particularly those that are less processed and/or coated.
