Are there any recommended threads or sites for the replacement of straps and bracelets?

I just bent the end of a spring bar with a Bergeon tool and I'm not happy.  I actually do have mechanical ability but this was a bitch.

Hey Donald... sorry to hear that.  Check the icons on the sidebar to the left - Watchprince and Don Ginsler both have great straps and Watchprince has replacement spring bars and tools as well.... hand6.gif

Donald, there are several great sites; watchprince, Don Ginsler, West Coast Time, Island watch...all with direct links on the left of the 3T main page.....I have also used http://www.lonestarwatches.com which has good prices and great service and http://www.internationalwatchman.com which has great prices and quirky service.

There is also an extensive list of strap vendors in the Favorite Vendors Forum:

I'm looking more or less for a "how to" guide so I'm sure I know what I'm doing.

Thanks.

Dont know if this helps or not.. but...

1.Lever located inside watchstrap.
2.Insert tip of spring bar tool between slots on lever.
3.Release strap by pushing lever in towards strap, then release. Be careful not to lose the pin.
4.Replace strap by inserting one end of lever into hole. Using tool to hold the lever, press lever into opposite hole.

I think he's trying to get one out of a bracelet.Sometimes a flat blade works better. I always use one when putting one back on.

I have 3 sizes of the fancy tools. Half the time they don't catch, or they screw up a nice strap. Screwdrivers rule!

And if the spring in the pin is stuck, I use a pair of needle nose cutters and clip that sucker. Screw the pins I say!hand6.gif

I use the "fancy" tool. A Bergeon. Cost $25, and worth every cent. Lonestarwatches.com sells them. Don't buy immitations. They break. I've got two of the POS's.

The small end of the Bergeon is especially good on bracelets. And, you can reverse the small end to a straight end for cases with lug holes. There also is a black plastic tool I have that works ok and costs about $10.

If you are dealing with an cheap OEM spring bar with no flange (spelling?) they are sometimes impossible to grab on to. As suggested above, just cut the sucker out and install a new (better) spring bar.

Thanks for the responses and yes I have the Bergeon spring bar tool.  The small end of the fork got the bars out but I kept looking over at the small screw drivers but thought I'd bend one in half so I stayed with the spring bar tool.
I thought to try the screw drivers but thought I'd bend one and then be pissed off for another reason.

Sometimes cheap springbars are insatalled with no lip for the tool. It happens. The best tool won't work. also the bar could be frozen. if theres a lip to grab onto you can see use a flat blade and see if it moves. if it does, just apply pressure and pull one side out. if not, cut it. If theres no room, going to a local jeweler works great. I have all the tools, but every once in awhile, I end up at the jewelers myself. There is no shame in not wanting to scratch your lugs. The jeweler is more than happy to show you how to take it out and install it. Thats the best instruction you can get. They see almost all of the pin and lug designs and are a valuable asset in learning.
