I have to thank Beth C. at World Lux for a most pleasurable buying experience. I was able to get the watch on the bracelet and the integrated rubber strap at a very competitive price. The entire experience with Beth and World Lux was top shelf all the way. Any question I had was answered, and Beth spent more than enough time being my eyes and hands as I peppered her with questions on the watch. She hooked me up with the watch I wanted and the strap. When I was ready so was the watch. Overall, I highly recommend the World Lux experience.

What can I say about the watch? In a word: massive! This thing makes my Vixa look and feel small. I was in the considering purchasing some better-known brand pieces but became obsessed with the Regulator. I knew I would have to go for it. I’m going to spend the weekend with it and will give it a better review after we are acquainted. First impressions: Massive and solid while remaining comfortable. Excellent fit and finish. Sweet dial work. A great bracelet. I though I was going to through it on the rubber strap but the bracelet is too nice to let sit idle. The strap is a soft silicone with a bit of a spongy, powdery feel. The regulator arrangement is easy to get used to though I find some times to be a bit startling aesthetically. For example, the hour and minute hands cross at say 2:50 and that throws me a bit. I wanted something a bit off the beaten path and idiosyncratic, and I think I got it… Thanks for taking a look.

I’m a bit rusty with the camera but here are some pix. Just dust...

A beauty for sure, Walter. You are not likely to see that one on the wrist of the guy next to you.

Thank you very much for the kind words.

As I once heard Frank Zappa say during a performance, "The response from the particular crowd has been very satisfying!!"

As is the watch. All the comments on the movement are warranted as it is a real work of beauty. CJ actually said it right off when he magically appeared to fondle it. This is one I am going to have to take off and show the movement to those who ask...

Thanks 3T for helping to make this a great WIS weekend!!

I had not noticed this post at all but I was just surfing the Alpina site not 10 mintues ago! Then I wander back into the New Arrivals and here it is

smile8.gif

Very nice stuff, I had thought about a regulator version of the 649x before so it makes sense that someone else had too!

Are the links in the Alpina screwed? Or; does it use pins?

Thanks!

I'll  tell ya, Chick; that Regulator has my interest. And, I spoke with World Lux again, today. The price is the same whether you buy that watch with the s/s bracelet, or on the rubber strap.

They are pins. As much as I like the bracelet the rubber is ultra-comfy... and I am a self proclaimed bracelet guy.

Get both. I had Beth get the rubber for me and bought the bracelet model. They charged me next to nothing for the strap but couldn't throw it in gratis for whatever reason...mistake.gif

Thanks! The fact that Ball uses screws really impresses me.

Right now; I am looking at a few other options, as well. The Alpina is a strong contender. But, as much as some folks don't really like that Dievas Prototype, I kind of do like it. The movement isn't very decorated. But, overall; that's a pretty cool piece. I was thinking about maybe getting it and a SA Air Boss Mach IV, or other combo.

It's hard to make a decision when we are talking about $1,000+ to spend. But, the Alpina is so sharp!

When I got my Alpina, I didn't even think of asking for the rubber strap. :(

That watch is certainly a big boy watch. When I had the bracelet sized, I just made sure it was a little on the snug side. I didn't want that thing banging around.

All the brands and watches you are mentioning are very nice and won't leave you disappointed.

The Dievas Proto kicks ass!!

Which Ball draws your interest?

The SA is cool too.

I can tell you the Alpina gets noticed and people generally are curious first due to the size and secondly, the dial arrangement. Beside the off the beaten path factor (which I wanted), the Alpina is top notch all the way. I am sure Chick can echo that!

Tough choice palomine..

Why not start a new thread with your choices and let the WIS here chime in?

Yeah..... I didn't mean to jack this thread. It is, afterall, about the Alpina. mistake.gif

I have owned the Mach IV on s/s. I loved that watch! I just wasn't able to get the bracelet right for my wrist.  And, I felt after selling it, I would one day return to it on leather. And, I did own the Ball Fireman before, as well.

So... the Dievas comes to mind. I have already spoken w/Marc at IW. He has one in stock..

As far as the Alpina in 48mm, here's a shot of my 46mm Incursore on my 7.5" wrist. It's big! But; it wore well.

The Alpina is one of my favorites, and is one of my few watches that always gets noticed. It's just a great watch.
