Just got round to modding the 22mm Strap Culture leather band I bought for the CSAR. The bronze thread is now black thread. They don't do a black thread version so thought some might be interested to see what it looks like. I've also ordered in some new buckles to try out of this one.

Thanks Ted, yeah, it is. I'll post some pics on the CSAR when it arrives. It's being sent via Fedex Saturday from the US. Should get here Mon, Tues.

I've also just bought another black leather strap to try:

GIOVANNI e Figlio la Spezia (22mm in black)

Should be $249 but bought it unused from a private seller for $60 shipped! Couldn't resist that deal! Will mod it to black thread as always and pop it on the CSAR and see how it looks. Think it will also work well.

Super stealthy. I've done the same thing with red and orange Sharpies. I think the results are cool and your SC looks wicked!

Keep having fun with it!snoopy1.gif

The SC was nice but it didn't suit the CSAR. The Panny buckle was all wrong..mistake.gif Just sold it, actually. The Giovanni is nice but the buckle is/was chrome on the one I got and the sucker was sewn in!! After an hour with the hacksaw and pliers the darn thing was removed and replaced with a lovely matching brushed SS buckle was is far better with the CSAR. I'm pleased with that one now and will keep it.

I did, however, feel compelled to change out the feeble rubber strap as it's nice to wear rubber when I'm actually in the water or when it's hot out. After a lot of research I finally settled on this:

It's the new Hirsch Lance and while not cheap it looks awesome, it's airy and allows you to adjust the curved lugs right up against the watch case. That should work well on the CSAR, I think. Will see midweek next week when it arrives. Pics to come!

Here's a couple of shots of the CSAR on leather:

This was a $249 Giovanni strap that I picked up for $60. It had bronze/tan thread which I modded to black. The buckle was a sewn in polished SS and didn't look right at all with the CSAR. An hour with a hacksaw got rid of the buckle and it was replaced with a nice heavy brushed SS one from Germany, which I'm very pleased with. Thick 5mm strap but soft as butter and great to wear.

An hour hacksawing at a sewn in buckle?  you have more staying power and patience then I would have Duncan... but looks great with the new buckle.   Are  you still expecting that cool Hirsch?

LOL! On a normal strap I probably wouldn't have bothered but this strap is fantastically soft and agile leather, despite it's thickness and because I got such a great deal on it I didn't want to flip it. The buckle cost me $20 so I've gotten the perfect strap exactly to my taste for $80 which is a big difference to the $250 - $300 I was expecting. That soothed the pain of not having a vice to hold the old buckle still whilst I sawed it.

Yep, the Hirsch is scheduled for Fedex delivery on Monday. Hope they get here early as I have meetings from 11.30am onwards but otherwise I should be here to receive it for second delivery on Tuesday. Looking forward to that one!

OK, I don't have time to set up any decent shots at the mo' but here's a few snapshots. First impressions: this is the kind of quality that the original should have been! It's thick, lightweight and good looking. Not sure if I'll keep it. Most probably I'll sell it on as I can only wear so many straps and between the leather and the kevlar I feel I've got my bases pretty much covered but I just had to see how this one looked on the CSAR! Have a look at the pics and judge for yourself.

Probably won't get a wrist shot off guys. In order to fit it so it doesn't look insane you need to cut it down to size. Won't do that being as it's getting sold so the wrist shots would be a bit pointless since the strap sticks out if not secured and correctly sized.

Well, was at an important meeting representing the Trust I work for today, so put the CSAR on the OEM bracelet. Still have it on the bracelet and am actually enjoying it more and more. Still searching for a fitting rubber strap for it, though. I did wear the OEM rubber strap for a day earlier in the week and whilst it was incredibly comfortable, it just doesn't work on a watch of this size. A 160 gram watch head needs something a little more substantial than a 2mm thick rubber strap that tapers to what must be 18mm, though I haven't measured the buckle.

Soo, with that in mind I ordered a few decent looking dive straps to try out. None of them were expensive but all are pretty decent lookers and reasonably thick and robust:

This first one is a heavy 26mm strap which is very similar to the old CSAR OEM strap that I have but a lot beefier:

My plan is to notch it to 22mm at the lugs and colour the thread black.

The second one is a 24mm from the same seller which looks promising, too:

The last one is also 24mm but it looks like the main strap is 22mm and the lugs are 24mm, so it should be easy to notch it perfectly:

All are advertised as natural rubber and not silicone. Looking forward to getting these. Will post some pics on the CSAR when they show up.

Note: these images are from the eBay auction pages, just rehosted. The last one is from ID thorntonwatch.
