just got the newest edition of Watchtime, besides the hate mail from the left on Glen Beck:D I noticed an ad from Doxa, advertising thier new 5000m whatever watch. The ad shows 3-4 I assume, Navy seals coming out of the water with rifles drawn?????

Question is......why are so many watch companies aligning themselves as or "trying" to give the impression that they have anything to do with our Armed Forces...seems like a slap in the face and a false persona for their watches.

Ok...........rant over:D

Makes 'em look tougher I guess.  If a watch can go thru what these guys put it thru wouldn't you want to put it on your wrist?  goofy That's IF they're wearing them at all.  mistake.gif

If they acually help our armed forces with money ,grants, or Doxa's for cheap, or free, I say thats fine ...BUT if they are just using the image to sell stuff without helping the boys in any way ....well thats just WRONG !!!! Can you do that ??? Is it legal ???

Theres a new (old) marketing trend going on right now with all the
Mixed Martial Arts leagues that are trying to start up and shows like American Gladiator which is old but new again, Mark Barnett is bringing a new one to the table with athletes from football and such, like jose conseco who are gonna be fighting on Television, not pay per view, on the Discovery Channel is a couple new ones, on Channel 13 KTTV is the IFL fighting league that is coming again this season, on Spike TV is also another new season of ultimate fighter and Mayweather is in discussion with Mark Cuban to possibly enter into MMA, The UFC was-is trying to strike a deal with CBS channel 2 to create a show.

The Vacum is being marketed towards that whole Stealth, special forces ass kickin way of life, if you will.

I bet most special forces guys just wear a G shock?

It must be easier to fantasize about being a bad ass than it is to be a Diver?

Tony I have known a few operators in my day and in the past I've been told when they see the adds like that they just laugh. For there are only a few heavy duty watches built that most truly trust. And I will leave that very short list to any who may be members here on the board.

One I have the MTM watch is one that is good for land and shallow water work. And they do have a heavy duty one too. But few actually wear it from what I have been told.

And I can tell you all the guys I have known do not wear a mechanical on a mission due to needing something much more accurate. And shock and pressure resistant. ;)

For the same reason we buy SUV's and sports cars that will never see the upper end of their performance range.  It's nothing new.  It's just plain ole marketing.

I mean, who is the watch marketed to ?  MEN!  What better way to advertise to your taget audience than to appeal to the archtype
?  The ancient hunter-gatherer in all of us, including his most modern form...  The serviceman, carrying out secret missions and special opserations under the cover of darkness where his equipment...  Indeed his watch... may be the difference between life and death!   ooohhhh!  I get all goose bumpy thinking about it.....  must....  buy....watch.....
