A friend of mine just purchased an Amish furniture and cabinet making company, some of the stuff these guys put out is amazing. We were at a party last night and started talking about watch boxes, what do guys like, how many watches, what kind of wood, etc. I have never been big on boxes because they don't fit well in a safe, they are usually too bulky. Would something more streamline that would fit in a safe be something of interest? If he could make something custom at a reasonable price, what would you guys like to see. This may be an opportunity to come up with a design that really works. We have already started talking about an idea I have for a chest of drawers where the top opens up on hinges with watch storage under the top. It would be totally stealth and no one would even know there was this hidden compartment. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The reason I havent gotten a box yet is I cant find anything that will fit on the shelf in my safe. Im not so much looking for something exotic with a glass top to show off but just something nice for storage. I am away from home quite a bit so I keep off my my watches locked in the safe with my guns so display value is not my number 1 priority but I would like it to look nice and be well made.

I posted this question on WUS also, someone came back with the idea of a box where the watches laid flat, like a travel case. this would probably only work for strap watches but it could probably be made less than 2 or 3 inches thick...the interior of the box may look something like this...
