I know there has been some discussion about how the RXW Marina Militare is a blatant copy of the Panerai, not just a homage. I'm not concerned about that, but rather the build quality and price. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the build quality was really good, but can't remember for sure. I also would like to know what everyones opinion on a fair price for one would be. I've come across one over on TZ for sale, but the seller is asking $1750. My initial impression is that's a little high, but don't really know enough about them to know whether I'm correct in that. Does the build quality on this piece warrant such a price? I don't know what they cost new or how rare they are so any input is appreciated. I'm off to work now and will check back in later. Thanks in avance guys.

Hi Murphy J Lotta discussion about this one from many quarters. They come from Ken Trading in Japan. From what I understand, they were a bit too close to the originals and OP shut him down. I can't find their website any more (http://www.rockxwatch something or other). Articles to read include: http://www.jitteryjim.com/stuff/watches/RXW.html http://chuckmaddoxwatch.blogspot.com/2005/06/rxw-plasmir-milgraph-chronographs.html and http://www.chronocentric.com/forums/chronotrader/index.cgi?noframes;read=4743 I have only seen one up close - it was a Plasmir Milgraph 2 register model on offer for about 1100 USD 2 months ago. Beautifully presented, but only 40mm w/o crown and quite a big buck here in Oz. The Plasmir model (2 and 3 registers denote different years of manufacture, the 3 register is the younger version) has what appears to be excellent lume - the others (often with "Marina Militaire" as the only logo on the dial - not so sure about. Heavy, well-crafted and rare enough to probably be collectible BECAUSE they cant sell any more, IMHO makes it worth more than your average homage. Hope you don't mind me sticking my nose in with a humble opinion! Good luck with the search! IanM

If this is the watch your on about the price would indeed be way to high. Looks like $200 might do the trick. http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZeddie-fudge1

Be aware the "Marina Militare designation is used on a large number of cheap imitations. I am guessing this eBay listing is not a true RXW but rather a cheap homage of an homage.face4.gif Murph, the whole RXW thing is too slippery a slope imho...

About the most I would dish out for the Pam homages I have seen would be about $500. I forget where but saw someplace that the MM may have more folks replicating it than the Pam. :?

The true RXW is pricey because of it's history and scarcity. While it may be a "collector's" timepiece, I doubt it is much better quality and performance than many of those on the market in the $250 to $500 range.

J...there is a huge difference between the original RXW MM and the Marina Militare everyone see's FS for $200. which is basically a replica in a larger version!coyote2.gif The original RXW MM is a collectors item and I have passed on a couple but will add one to my collection sooner or later....they are 40mm and were a hot ticket when they came out in original packaging....you can find them on Bigwatches 54 forum FS from time to time anywhere from $1200. to $1500. and are Awesome imhohand6.gif....if you do a search of the watch here it has been discussed more than a few times....here is 1 link Buddy!watch2.gif http://www.timetechtalk.com/view_topic.php?id=10287&forum_id=1&highlight=rxw

The one I'm refering to isn't on fleabay. It is on the TZ sales corner. The seller says its one of the ones from Ken Trading and in one of the pictures it shows box, literature and strap changing tool. I've been thinking about getting a good Panerai homage and was wondering if that particular one was worth that kind of price. My first instinct was that it's TOO high, but then thought, maybe there's a homage out there that is worth that amount of money. I knew I'd come across some threads in various places that referred to the original RXW ones and I think I've even been on ther website when it was up. I didn't know they were that pricey. I appreciate evrybody chiming in with their knowledge and opinions. When I do decide to pull the trigger on one it'll probably be on a Dievas or from the guy oldskool got his from. I REALLY like the pvd one with the skull n crossbones buckle strap. Theres also a 2 register Plasmir Milgraph version over there too. Last edited on Sat Apr 12th, 2008 01:33 pm by murphy j |

For $1750, there are plenty of great watches out there. That's a lot of money to throw down on a watch that is made to look like another watch. Just my opinion.

In this case I would guess the fact he's offering a number of these is a sure sign they are not the real deal. I don't think they ever were too plentiful so it would be weird for him to have such a number of them.
