I have a watch with an ETA 2824 2 movement in it .The problem is it wont hand wind .When i undo the crown it will move the hands and date and if worn it will run.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I understand that without seeing the watch this is a big ask but it may be a common thing ,who knows i dont.

I took the watch to the local repair shop who said it needed full service new winding parts presure test £110 ($200) .

More than likely need a new crown tube and crown. Sometimes the crown threads are fine as the tubes usually go bad first. Seems a little pricey at $200 but it depends on what he calls a full service. If the movement will be completely disasembled and parts cleaned ..might be worth it if you like the watch.

Thanks for replying Tony  .I think it is a lot of money ,the watch is hardly worn and not that old .it feels like the crown does not pull out far enough or its to far and just misses the winding gear. If that makes any sense , i did not get good vibes when i took the watch in and feel that they may just be massaging the bill. But not having a clue about watch repair it is a bit of a mine field for me.
