I've been doing a little local window shopping and have found a '02 model Submariner. The watch has no box and papers, but still has the hologram on the back, is guranteed authentic by the seller and comes with a 1yr gurantee for parts, labor and functionality. This seller has been dealing used watches for over twenty years, especially Rolex. I'm wondering if you guys think $3600 is a fair price.

If in good shape that is not to bad. I've seen pre-owned at a 98% TZ go for $4200 before but not sure what year they were. Don't follow Rolex to much. The ones I like the most are way out of the range I'd pay for a watch till I hit a lotto or some like it. LOL :D

If it's a watch that you always REALLY wanted, I'd wait till another comes along with all papers and box. I believe the anchor still came with it. I think they discontinued it in 05. If someone wants to correct me on that. Anyways, what style is it? Does it have a date? A cyclops? I've seen used go for as little as $2900 all the way up to brand new pricing.

It's a stainless steel Submariner w/date. And yeah, it's one I've always wanted, but I'm not real concerned about box and paers so long as it's real. Not sure what I'd rate it at on the TZ scale since I haven't familiarized myself with that grading system. The watch looked near mint to my untrained eye.

Word of caution, don't buy any Roller without  proper documentation...
having said that, I've sold my Oyster Prince Perpetual for $5,570 after owning it
for a month.  I've kept everything that came with the watch...

Hello Digital Camera!

Hello Digital Camera!

I understand about the whole documentation thing, but this sellers watchmaker worked for Rolex for 10-15 yrs and they've built a reputation on the fact that they can spot a fake and sell only the real deal. They are so confident that what they sell is genuine, that they have no problems with you sending it to Rolex and give all their gurantees in writing. That's the only reason why I'm even considering buying this piece from  these people.

murphy...I am sure that the watch you are buying is real...that said, have it verified by an independent source....please...if not for your peace of mind, then for ours! :)

Confucious say"no box...no papers...half price"subtlelaugh.gif

a real watchmaker can get the COSC cert for that Rolex and at least that will verify it ....$3600. is a bit steep for a used sub without documentation....but if you can get the serial # and model#I will gladly research it for you as those will determine value.....there is a large difference in price between model#'s.hand6.gif
